Very interesting. I would think APMEX wouldn't just go spouting out numbers. I got the 500,000 mintage from Lear. The first time I saw anything about the 8,500 mintage was in an ebay listing from Europe. I guess we get to play the wait and see game unless some valid information shows up somewhere. I wonder where APMEX got the info from?

If the mintage is only 8,500, the value off this coin will increase.

I am hoping it is 8500 because I brought a few of these but I just find the mintage is a bit too low for bullion and also one that been ordered by a specific company and to be distribute by a specific company in U.S. It just doesn't seems to add up.

To think logically - the mintage can't be as low as 8.500 (low for the Bullion coin). Really interesting - where from came out info about 8500 mintage.
In other hand - if the coin was initially ordered by single distributor - why they would order mintage of 500.000 - it is too much for them.
But in any way - last year we've seen "Artistic wildlife" coins with mintage of 7.000 - 8.000 - "Praying Mantis" and "Bateman's Moose" that although being very nice, proof coins - doesn't do well on the secondary market. so probably the same way - the 2013 Polar Bear's price will be around $80 - $90

There have been lots of bullion (SML privy, some of the zodiac privy etc) with mintages as low or lower than 8500 and some of them were commissioned by a single source. Really, of the two numbers, 500k is the most unbelievable. I hope it is closer to 8500 too because I also have a few of them.

I don't mind either number 500 000 or 8500 as I like the design. that being said, I would much prefer 8500. It would be nice to have a definite answer to the mintage.

Yeah...bought 2 as well, and will not sell them.
Just hope - no milkspots on them in the future and I will find good capsules.

Just got my notification Email ---APMEX now has the 1.5oz Polar Bear in stock and they were charging $84.56 for it as of 5:15pm (ET) on Tuesday 12/11/12.
It's a nice coin and the value will go up, but I'm still having some trouble warming up to that $23.43 per oz premium.
