I have a question for error experts. For a coin that is double struck with second strike off-centre. Does the percentage of off-centre effects on the value? if so, the greater percentage of off-centre is better than less one? e.x. 85% off comapre to 20% off. Thank you!

mdp , that is a great site for US errors, which I now have saved, but I think 'Dollar' is asking about Canadian errors.

I would pay more if the second strike is 20-60 percent off as opposed if the second strike was 80+ per cent off . Also what details of the second strike showing ( ie a second date )would impact the price for me . Post a picture !

I checked out the above link and knew instantly some of those prices are under valued and the Indian cents off center at $5 are a typo for sure. USA error coins (off center & multiple struck) dated post 2001 are extreemly rare to locate, and when I noticed a $2 price for 1982 + Zinc off center Cents (wholesale price) with no notation of post 2001 error prices, was quite surprised that they didn't have a cut-off date for the zinc cents, such as (1982-2000) with 2001 dated cents valued somewhat higher as they are less available... After some searching on the site, founded the following that I pasted below, and believe they should have included this info on the error price page... (the photo under my user name is the only known 2003D quadstrike I know of and purchased it back in 2003) --------------------------------------------------------------- "Early in 2002 the mints changed their production methods to a new system designed to eliminate deformed planchets, off-center strikes, and similar errors. They also changed the delivery system of bulk coin, and no longer shipped loose coins in sewn bags to be counted and wrapped by banks or counting rooms, where error coins were often found and sold to collectors. Under the new system, coins are packaged in large quantities and go directly to automated counters that filter out deformed coins. The result has been that very few error coins have entered the market since late 2002, and almost none after that date. The values shown in these listings are for pre-2002 coins; those dated after that, with but a few exceptions, are valued considerably higher."

Back to the posters question on off centers, the more off center with the date showing, the higher the value/demand and dateless off centers are worth much less... Error values depend on the individual coin itself and not a catalog price as each error is somewhat unique, where-as die variety coins display the exact variety on each planchet the die strikes and each die can strike tens of thousands coins...

Double struck, in collar, is more valuable than a 2nd strike off-centre. Add in a flip strike, in collar, for one of the most desirable errors - folks usually scream "back door" with those errors...

The more overlapped the second strike and the stronger the original details, generally the more collectable it is. A second date also adds to the value.

I was surprised that it didn't sell when you last listed it . I though your price was reasonable . I would have bought it but it isn't one of my needs at the moment . I already have at least four double struck nickels I can think of . Put it back on ebay and start it at a buck , I'll bet that you will get a fair price for it . I always support legitimate Canadian errors on ebay that start at a buck !

I am not the seller but a buyer of this coin. I got no idea what is a reasonable price for such type of coin as I couldn't find any sold reference.
