No, but in the past they have been selling their coins at a reduced price vs. the RCM price - and still do. Take the latest Go7 coin as an example - $81.95 at Gatewest vs. $89.95 at RCM. Despite that discount they still make money on these. With the beaver, they listed them straight away at the RCM price which probably doubles their profit.
If you know a dealer's practices and get used to them, you expect the dealer to continue to do so in future. If the dealer raises prices without even giving you a chance to buy them at the discounted price then I'm done with that dealer. It's called gouging... Here in the US we had the same problem with the 5oz ATB pucks & APMEX - who lost a lot of respect in the process...

You're looking at their US prices. The Carmichael on Gatewest's website is currently $89.95 CAD (it's 81.95 USD).

Similar with other RCM coins. Their CAD price is the same as RCM while their USD prices are lower (in nominal dollars).

They have two on-line catalogues. One for Canadians and one for Americans.

Now one could question why Gatewest sells to US customers in US dollars that are less than the CAD equivalent but that is a different rant.

BTW - I don't see the beaver coins in the American's catalogue yet so likely it will be updated soon and at a lower nominal prices.

i believe this 5oz. beaver to be like most nclt coins that will never be worth more than orginal price, based on topic and mass appeal, this coins design looks cartoony. but what do I know? it could sell in the next few weeks on ebay at 20 times issue like the ladybug!

What makes it so special that it will sell at 20x the issue like the ladybug? No other 5 oz coin has ever sold at even 2x the list because $500 is too expensive to go much higher. Who is going to pay $10,000 for this coin at 20x the list? At most there would be a slight premium for this coin, like the 5 oz penny.
Mass appeal for a $500 coin in poor economic times. No way.

20 x 139.95= 2799

Are there buyers for $2,800 bugs? Pretty sure I'd sell at that price.

I agree though on the 5 oz coins; I doubt any of these will be good investments for the reason you stated. My bet is that the penny will do better or hold it's value better than the others.

i was trying to make light of this situation. this coin seems to be selling really well to my surprise. my misstake on the ladybug coin I forgot the issue price, so its 6 times orginal price, that still amazes me, but thats true market value

I guess 5 oz penny will do better than other 5 oz coins too. And I don't understand why 5 oz beaver is a little expensive than $500 this time. For the ladybug, I am very lucky to get 2 at issue price.
Rest in Peace

Hey beaver, it's true
I do believe I knew
I got that fever too
So let's go do what hungry beavers do
It will taste so good
We gobble wood and have ourselves some dam good fun

Two beavers are better than one
They're twice the fun
Ask anyone
A second beaver can be
Second-to-none
Two beavers are better than one

I see them on the website now and I was wrong. They are listed at 99.95USD and 519.95USD. Same as the CAD prices.

BTW, the mint had the 1oz as 'awaiting stock' yesterday but it's available today. Less than 300.

After all, 1oz Beaver - good looking coin, although the beaver itself kind funny - looks like from animated movies or my son's books.

And plus a limited mintage of 8.500 - it will be Sold-Out soon, IMO.
Why not: iconic animal, proof finish.
But the mint started to raise a prices - till now it was under CAD 90.00 for 1oz (without paint, crystals, glass insects) coins.

If Praying Mantis also was struck as 1oz coin, priced under $90, I think the demand could be greater.

the praying mantis coin was much hyped, many dealers ordered heavyly and are stuck with this coin.

Isn't it required for an official mint distributor to sell at the original mint's retail prices at least until the item is sold out at the mint?
