I dont think anyone could foresee the drastic drop in the gold price..i wonder what the RCM would charge if they released those coins today? ..one year later....thanks for the article coinsplus...its a bit of a laugh when the RCM mentions they had a modest return on the BOC sales ........they must have made a killing.....Im still happy I invested in the coins ...the quality of my coins is quite acceptable even if they arent MS 65s..I feel for the folks who bought the expensive sets...personally I think Gold will eventually go up again..so hold the gold!along with your nose....

I have to admit ..i am a bit surprised that this forum has underplayed the fact that the BOC release has finally completely sold out and is not available from the RCM anymore...here is the url for the archived lot of coins http://www.mint.ca/store/product/19...0&lang=en_CAThis is a new development as of the past month they are now listed as SOLD OUT...thanks to osmiumblue for being the first one I can see to notice it back in early december 02...pg 167 Looking at the price of RCM gold coins these days they are either in a time warp of denial or they know something we dont.....or ...they realize we are coin collecting addicts who will pay any ammount for a scarce coin under 225,000 mintage! ie the 20 for 20 release where you pay 20 bucks for 5.00 worth of silver.....what a deal!.....yikes!.... The one oz gold coins for 4K ..ie summer moon mask is an example....even at only 500 mintage thats a hefty premium..but what do I know? ..i shelled out 2700 for a Dr Who gold coin with only 250 mintage..so I'm not one to talk! I just pray........please god,,save me from my coin addiction..one day at a time......the mint must be confident that gold will rebound so that is one good sign......as we head towards 200 pages on this forum....over to you all....

Are you sure they were all sold out? Or the mint just pull the remaining stock off the site because the 1-year release period is past?

Quote: Are you sure they were all sold out? Or the mint just pull the remaining stock off the site because the 1-year release period is past? As you said shaopaholic, I believe that the $10 Premium Hand Selected 1913 and 1914 coins did not really sell out. However, the coins were all taken down from the mint's website in compliance wit the policy of retiring them from being foe sale after one year. In December, I was noticed that those two coins were still listed as "for sale" on the archived page, even though if you clicked on the buy button, you received a message the the item was unavailable. Now the archived page shows all coins as "Sold Out", since you can't buy any from the mint anymore. According to the Globe and Mail article last December about these coins: "...The sale recently closed. Final numbers won't be known until the spring, but a mint official confirms they came very close to selling all the coins..."I hope we will know the final numbers in the Spring.

well as far as the Sold Out to whom question goes..as a mere MC club member they were sold out to me a year ago except for the premium coins and set..Maybe the Dealers will have the leftovers as was suggested by osmiumblue....The fact is they are now Sold Out which is about time as far as I'm concerned....at 1/2 an oz of .900 gold the 10.00 gold coins in MS 63 are worth about 500 in bullion alone so the actual premium value in my opinion is at least around 1000.00 plus and once the bulk hoard is melted then psychologically the value should rise further...Charlton list for this grade in 2013 was 2500-3500 CAD.......before the Hoard was sold and melted..If and when the gold price goes back up then those prices might again be attainable....but I'm very pleased to know they have Sold Out the Hoard release without much fanfare I would say....

Take a look at recent Heritage sale, ms 64 BOC coins sold for 1300 to 1500 while rightly so the few ms 65 went for really good prices, a premium super set sold for a lost to the original owner.

i have looked at Heritage and I note that recent Hoard sold prices are very uneven but because the graded coins have the Hoard label they get better prices than non hoard gold ...even if they are overgraded!.... ie PCGS MS 63 1914 10.00 for around 1645.00 and this coin is overgraded ..there was a PCGS MS 64 10.00 1912 that got over 4K and that was overgraded..... and of course you find lower prices as well especially on the regular non hoard coins ...but I get the picture..on Heritage its a huge gold buyers market for sure. From what I can see today on Heritage ....the Canada gold hoard coins are up on the mint issue price and thats because they are in such nice fresh condition ...they should hold and increase value depending on bullion and currency values of course but numismatically they are super coins for the most part....I was surprised the Heritage prices for graded hoard gold arent bad at all....except for the 10K premium set which was a mistake..that should have had a reserve price so my condolences to the seller..thats a big loss

@ bugsbun, are you familiar with Geoffrey Bell Auctions? I suggest visiting their website and maybe getting in touch with Brian. They are just in Moncton, approx 2.5 hours drive from Halifax? Both Geoff and Brian are true gentleman, it's too bad we didn't discuss this last week because they could have brought you back everything you need from the CAND show in Hamilton, ON this past weekend. They have an auction in just couple weeks, I suggest keeping an eye on the icollector link below. http://www.icollector.com/Geoffrey-...tions_ae1137http://www.gbellauctions.com/18.html

Quote: @fed_ink unfortunately, I am in halifax nova scotia, and this is too small of a city to get coins show. It is too bad 'cause that would be really interesting. But spending hundreds or even thoushands just to get there, is kinda pointless since I havent bought anything yet. That's why I am turning to the web for that. FYI - there are coin shows in Halifax, I don't see one scheduled for this year but I know there is rumors for one in 2015. I'll be attending for sure, might stay a couple extra days and try some east coast fishing with my ol' man.

Very nice coins osmiumblue. That $5 looks better then a 62, but then again I'm sure you had to resize the photo to upload them. And I'm no pro at grading myself lol. Ether way very nice set there.

Thanks, chubbycheeks! I've seen worse PCGS/NGC MS 63s, but I think luster is a big factor for the American TPGs. But I expected them to be MS 62s, so no complaints here.

Why is it taking more than a year for Charlton and Trends to reset the new market values for these 1912-1914 gold coins? Trends has the 1914 $10 MS62 at $1800 which is about $800 too high and the 1912 MS 62 at $1400 which is about $200 too low. The 1914 $5 is about $700 too high at $1600.
There are certainly enough transactions to revise their outdated numbers. It just shows that you need to do your own research and not rely upon others for pricing data. I am going to send a note to Trends and ask them what their policy is on revising their numbers.
