Quote: Anybody have an idea why this coin sold for over $1000? Here is the link... Hmmm, this interesting. Exactly thought to sell the same coin (and it even looks better) and the people interesting. Maybe to "copy - paste" listing style and sell mine for same price?

1912 $5 is very hard to come by. I am missing one for my hand-select set. btw, thanks for reminding me about these coins. I think they are one of the best item RCM released over the years.

oh, I wasn't referring to monetary appreciation. I just like the idea of having something from the vault.

by any chance, youguys wouldn't happen to know where we could get the wodden box that the set of 6 premium hand selected came with? I am slowly building mine, and I now have 3 (4 under way) premium hand selected. I would really like to have them all in one case though... any idea?

I received an email telling me that they will be doing a comprehensive survey of the mint customers and that they would be looking for ways to improve the mint shopping experience and other things pertaining to coin collecting .

Dominic, the 1912 $10 only came hand select. If you really wanted the box, I am sure there are auctions that sells the original box as some people sent their coins for grading and they have a box with no coins. You just have to look hard at these auctions. Late last year, heritage auction have a set for auction. you can buy the whole thing and resell the coins that are graded. Cheers

thx for the info. I knew that I wouldn't be able to find the 10$ 1912 in premium hand selected, but my main focus was the box. I couldn't find it anywhere.... and I've been looking for a while. even tried asking the mint to see if they could provide just the box, but they basically told me that I was on my own and to check with local dealers... once again, not much luck on that side... that's why I figured my best bet would probably be to ask people who share the same interest...

@Dominic:
Try to go over this thread, and to see, if any of collectors posted that he/she purchased the set. Try to ask this person, if he needs the case (might be decided to sent coins for grading).

@dominic: you are talking about the big box, correct? It also came with an original mint bag that held the coins....I do have a spare premium sized box, but just the single box, not the premium set.

@silveroid well... I have to say that was long and interesting (At times) but I have gone through the whole thread. I was a bit disapointed though that not one person mentionned buying the 12K set. guess that was just too expensive for our blood!

@tripoli yes, basically I am trying to have all 6 coins showing in the same box. I don't really care if it still has the original bag they were stored in (though that would be REALLY nice!) but I find that having to individually open all boxes to show them off takes a bit away from the AWE factor. I know, it might be weird, I guess I must be a bit OCD! lol plus it is my first and pretty much only collection for now, so I really want the best for it... I'm actually considering getting a box for another set... but I'm not sure if that would work due to coin sizes...

I doubt you will find the box for the super, best of the best 6 coin set, when the graded set sold on Heritage a few months ago, the box along with the bag was included in the sale.

Here my opinion on this:
Unfortumatelly, I think, it will be extremely tough to find this box, people will not be ready to sell it, cause the set included also some bag, and probably single COA for 6 coins, so even graded set will be kept with that original box.
Now the solution: Try to utilize one of the following boxes: 1. O Canada 38mm 5 coin box - but validate, that it able to hold capsules for gold coins (I thing it will fit), but you also need to keep 5 coins out of 6.
2. 6 coin box for "Wild Life" series, that offered by one of the German manufacturers. The case looks good and solid. And again, need to pre-verify, that it able to hold your capsules.
3. Wooden box for 6 H-sized Airtites by Guardhouse. Nice box. Hard to find.
