I'd say you helped them out glenzy1 by posting that ebay listing on this site. ( a little kick back coming your way?)

Quote: He/she is not sounding like they are very smart at conducting business... They have banned quite a few people here from bidding... These forum members are the customers that help to bid these items up to their fullest potential.. Including other serious collectors from elsewhere that we're banned.. Maybe they should focus on their grading/HR skills and not on their hit lists. The old adage, if it is not broken, why fix it - applies here. Clearly, they established a routine, simple means to generate income. Somehow, I don't think they care about the "serious collectors", as that does not seem to be their target market. By banning what is perceived in their eyes as "problem buyers", it points to the path of least resistance, which keeps a well-oiled machine running... I am still scratching my head, as to why this seller garners so much attention on this forum. It should be the good sellers that reap the kudos of the collecting community, not the wholesalers...

I agree, it makes their life easier and they are probably content with what they have going for them. I just think they are shooting themselves in the foot by blocking people that could bring them a higher profit. And I also agree that you never seem to hear about the stellar sellers,, just the bad ones or the bad experiences.

with SPP, has anyone ever thought that they might have allies here on the forum ? Instead of always picking why not give him a for the supply he puts outs there for everyone ... Its up to the buyer to be more informed right ?

I agree with all sides here........that asyn does overgrade, however they start at $0.99 and so it is up to the buyers to view/determine fair market price they are willing to pay. Heck, even TPG coins need to be reviewed as they are not always accurate/correct either. Having a mass/wholesale seller putting cheap coins out for non-serious (or even serious) collectors is great, because if a ton of cheap coins make their way into "new" collectors hands, then ALL our collections/values will maintain/rise with more introduction to the hobby. Without a collector, coins are worth face/bullion value (or less).....caveat emptor ! :-)

I agree with the above post, new collectors need a source to start out, not everyone starts with inheriting

One of the fist coins I purchased as a young collector (and very new to the hobby) was an 1899 US dime from a coin store in Halifax. There was no internet then, so sources of inexpensive items for someone learning the hobby was very limited. It turns out this particular store overgraded and overpriced a lot. The dime still isn't worth what I paid for it (it wasn't a lot of money, but was a good amount to a little boy), but it was great having somewhere to get something for my blossoming hobby and I suspect that is what is attracting so many to his auctions. Quantity is more important than quality to so many newish collectors.

This seller is absolutely Phenomenal when you look at their E-bay stats! First off, ASYN is one of the oldest seller's (started in 1998) on E-bay with a feedback of over 400,000+ and a feedback score of near 99%! WOW, I've never had any dealings with this seller, so I'm not able to make a qualified statement good or bad about them! Many well known E-bayer's (collector's/dealer's) have purchased from them, judging by the feedback I.D's they've received. Also, looking at the stats and feedback on ASYN they must be doing something right? Glenn

In summation: Good: - Often cheap prices - Diverse and eclectic collection - Free shipping - Combined shipping Bad: - Automated ebay "please pay now" reminders...inconsequential, but annoying. - SUPER slow shipping - Items often mis-labelled/misspelled. (Can be a Good thing too!) - Inconsistent labeling (labeling a 1967 dollar a "silver dollar", but a 62 a "dollar", bad for intermediates) - Uses "$1", "50c", etc, which can be difficult to search for. ebay does not do well with the dollar sign in searches.

I don't even bother to look at any listing by ASYN. The photos are terrible, the coins are always overgraded and from what a lot of people are saying, it's just not worth the hassle.

When I first started noticing asyn's listings, I found them so annoying, there are so many, but little by little I was drawn in, lol. I am mostly chasing an MSish collection (at least I am now...this is a sick, sick hobby :) and asyn doesn't really cater to that but I can definitely see the plus for junk silver divers and new collectors. I have bought quite a bit from him over the years, the best so far is a 1871H Obv. 2 25c (cost $750)sent to ICCS...MS-64. A few other gems too and a few dogs...but that was the best so far.

Trimble... re: Quote: " but little by little I was drawn in, lol.
