Mcshilling, Looked into Amtrak from Port Huron to Union Station for me and the better half is $105.00 round trip. "Ya" that is total for both of us. Union Station is about 15 miles out from the Convention Center but the Subway system could bring you in. We did this in Philly and really enjoyed it. We stayed away from the high buck places downtown and booked a place by the airport. Went to the coin show and the U.S Mint and other historical places. Thanks Just Carl, for the information. Always ask the locals as they say.
Edit for Mike "Ya"

The previous posts have reminded me how expensive parking is around the convention center in Rosemont.
I about fell over when I bought a bottle of water. $7.00.
Anyway, it was a lot of fun to go to two years ago and I am looking forward to going again this August.
Would it be possible to arrange a time for us to gather at the CCF table? Maybe you're already making plans.
Dad -- I don't know if this is the place to write about publicity but I have an idea. Let me know if you're interested.

The Rosemont station is on the CTA blue line its withing walking distance of the convention center. 5801 North River Road. Convention center is at 5555 N. River Road CTA map here http://www.transitchicago.com/asset...trainmap.pngIt takes 35 mins to get from down town A standard 3 day cta pass is $20 so there are plenty of options if high price hotels at the airport/convention center are not in your budget. If my wife and I do mange to make it then we will be staying somewhere inexpensive along the blue line and commuting to the convention center.

Yep. And that was 2 years ago. And the price of food -- about twice what you'd pay outside the convention center.
My husband goes to a lot of conventions (mostly electronic/engineering)and he says this is normal and it doesn't bother him at all.

the Best western at the airport would appear to be $119 per night with free parking. $2.25 for the train to the Rosemont and 15 mins walk to the convention center

Someone finds anything for $100 or less please post, still looking. If your not driving to this event, note that there are all kinds of local taxi services available in the area. Not the ones that do the airport though since they are rather on the expensive, one fare to and/or from the airport. Once your in the area, check with where ever your staying for a local taxi company. Not sure of the prices of that Motel6 about a mile from the convention center but I'll check in the next few days. And for food, can't beat that Dennys accross the street. I may stop in at the Motel6 and get some more info. One interesting thing I found out is just to enter most of the hotels parking lots, I would have to pay. Just getting info from them means I would have to pay to just ask prices. If coming in by train to Union Station, their are as many cabs around that place as people. And Chicago cabs are really expensive. I'll check out more of the area this week for cheaper restaurants and hotels/motels.

We will be driving from Houston its about 1500 miles so we will take 4 days to get there. Direct route is closer to 1200 miles but in order to save some cash we will be casino hopping along the way Assuming they comp us rooms.
