The CTA has a decent web site. You enter where you will start and where you want to go and it will give the turn by turn directions along with all the fares required to get from one point to the other.
You can grab a cab at Union Station for sure. You might want to plan on that in case it is miserably hot. You can also expect for some guy to run and hold the door open for you -- hoping for a tip. I usually keep a few singles in an easy to reach pocket so I don't have to open my purse and get out my wallet.
Also, guys selling newspapers, etc. will be hanging around all the doors at the station. Same thing. They're just trying to make a buck.
What time of the day are you arriving? It can get really busy at rush hour.

Quote: So there is a difference between the CTA System and L/Subway system. Correct? No. CTA is the Chicago Transit Authority. The L/Subway system is part of that. The L is the overhead part and the Subway is, naturally, under the ground. In part, there are places where the L goes underground to become the Subway system. Regardless of what it is called, they are all just a massive transportation system on rails. However, the Chicago busses are also part of the CTA. In the Suburbs, the bus system is called Pace. If, for some reason you want to take a Pace Bus, again, it would pay to request a Map of their system and schedules. Might be on the internet. The worst part of all this is getting from Union Station to the L/Subway. There are busses, cabs, walking. I've walked that stretch for many years. Used to be fun cutting in and out of all the buildings but that all stopped due teo security. To bad because some great old buildings with lots of decorations along the way. Going East, away from Union Station, you would first come to Franklin Ave. That is where Sears, now Willis, Towers is. Next is Wells St., Then LaSalle, then Clark, then Dearborn. That is where the Blue line to Rosemont is under the Street. Once on the Blue Line train, remember not to pass the Rosemont Stop because the next stop is the Air Port, O'Hare.

Thanks Just Carl and Buddy for the information. We arrive at Union Station 11: 45 AM. Not sure if the shuttle from the Hotel will pick us up at the Rosemont Station or O'Hare. Their web-site is not exactly specific. Good heads-up about people opening doors, selling newspapers hoping for a tip. My wife and I won't be to freaked out now. A cab looks like the best way to get to the Blue Line on Dearborn. edit: which would be the Jackson Station correct?

Yep.
The CTA Online System Map should be helpful and I would advise printing a copy just in case your batteries run down and you can't use your smart phone. (I do not even own one....just an old-fashioned cell phone.) I like to have a map out so the cabbies don't take me on the scenic route.
One more tip...if you're ready to eat when you arrive in Chicago, eat at Union Station or you will have to wait until you get to your hotel.

My wife and I are flying into MDW and renting a car for our trip. Were doing some driving around before and after the show. Anyone know if there is a train that runs from Prospect Heights (where we are staying) to Rosemont? Can we walk to the CC from that station? If not were driving in.

vermontensium, check out the Chicago area RTA trip-planner. It has train, bus, and driving info.
I just checked it and not knowing where you're staying, found transportation is available from Prospect Heights to Rosemont. The cost was under $8 (probably one way). I think it costs more than twice that to park at the convention center.

We are actually now flying into Milwaukee (flights look better) on the 7th and staying there a couple days to tour the beer plants and to just look around. We have not been to the upper Midwest before except SD (which we loved). She worked her magic and got us airline employee rates @ $38 per night. We will then drive down for setup and show.
