Quote: Look for the 1/2oz sets at a discount on the aftermarket. 12 coin, 6oz, one of them coloured, in presentation box... and price will drop from $480? I don't think so. Especially if many people cancel sub now ;-) PS: I'd buy this set over, say, new 5oz Maple any minute.

ordered 1 penny roll and 1 dino. Thinking of updating to 3 dinos....if they dont do well in after market I will just return to the mint.
I think the penny roll will EXPLODE in after market. Despite the price being craxy hight, the fact that each roll is serialized and an official last 1 million pennies, makes it worth the $10. Wish I can get my hands on more rolls.

It is so unfortunate, but buying new mint products at mint issue price is like buying a new vehicle from a car dealer. Let someone pay retail at the beginning, and let the secondary market buy it after depreciation, at a much more reasonable discount. My 2 cents.

You think someone from the mint looked on ebay and said "Oh my god I can't believe how much people are paying for penny rolls!". Then they priced the rolls at $10 thinking why should someone else make all the money? I have a hard time buying 2012 pennies. I have seen many people with hundreds of roles of pennies. My local coin ship sell rolls for $6. He has 6 boxes of pennies. There are a lot of hoarders. I can see this being a big hit right of the bat and then selling for retail or discounted within a year or two. At one role a person anybody who really wants them will be able to get one.

Strange there is a limit of one penny roll per customer, given the high mintage of 20,000 rolls. This is like the limit of one per customer for the Robert Bateman coin. It later turned out you order as many as you want from the post office. This probably means they will hold back some for other retail like the post office.

That all sound good but I hope that person don't complain later when they can't afford the coins they wants due to the price hike in secondary market. Eg the 5 penny set, 5 oz penny, Lady bug, bumble bee, etc. Edit: Not that I think any coin in this series has the same attraction as the 5 oz penny or the 5 penny set or the ladybug

You know a lot of people were upset there was no penny in the proof and specimen sets. I think the mint will make a special 2013 penny for some special edition set. Wouldn't that make everybody go nuts. They kept issuing the 50 cent coins in rolls even though its not being made for circulation any more. Would not put past the mint to do something like this. After all Greed is much stronger than Common Sense.

Quote: Not that I think any coin in this series has the same attraction as the 5 oz penny or the 5 penny set or the ladybug This is exactly the point. I waited until now to buy my 2012 dragon coins and was able to win one in auction for $80. I can't see any of the silver coins in this series being a huge hit. The coins are over produced, over priced and no color or special process. The only hit, in my opinion, will be the dino coins because they are colored and have a gimmick that appeals to the lowest common denominator.

Quote: But the Maple Leaf is Proof!! After so many years. It will be nice addition to 1989 Proof SML The 5oz is REVERSE proof (for what I've seen, not a MC myself)... which is different from the 1989 proof one. Reverse proof are struck for privy version and the 10oz 1998 10th anniversary was also reverse proof.

I had already cancelled my O Canada subscription...so I'm thinking about the 5coin animal O Canada....which is the best of both worlds...1oz and only animal coins...I was not a fan of the summer coins as they look cartoonish

To TIPIT:
yes, you correct about all there Reverse Proof editions.
But I meant - the 1oz SML (2013 25th Anniversary with Selective Gold plating): it mentioned in the specifications, that the finish is "Proof with selective gold plating".
So, this one will be Proof together with 1989 SML and that one that included in the Proof set (Gold, Silver, Platinum)

such expensive coins in this release. I did end up changing my order to 3 dinos...since I dont have the first one (nor do I have the desire to collect $30 nickel coins) I will be flipping all 3. Good thing the shipping date is so far from now, I can better track the ebay prices and cancel if anything. I still think the penny roll will hold their price at 10, even in a few years. Only reason is the serialized roll and "limited" mintage.
