coins4fun Valued Member United States 153 Posts	Posted 02/10/2013 2:30 pm So a couple of ramblings/thoughts... after having completed the 7070, I am now pondering what to do next and have about $500 to spend on coins a month. I enjoyed collecting coins by type. If I had a gun pointed to my head, and I had to choose one series to collect, I like the Capped Bust design. One series which may be sleeping are the Capped Bust quarters. These coins are difficult to come by in AU-MS grades, and seem like bargains today when one sees Franklins selling for 2grand each. My dream collection would be to do the PCGS Type Set Registry in Proof. Realistically, I would not be able to finish such a set, but I might be able to acquire all of the coins with a weight of 1 or 2 and perhaps 1 gold coin over my lifetime :) I would also like to collect as an investment, so I would aim to collect a series that has future potential. In my opinion, the prices are going up for coins that are nice and shiny and rarity comes second. Edited by coins4fun 02/10/2013 2:42 pm Report this Post to the Staff

coins4fun Valued Member United States 153 Posts	Posted 02/10/2013 3:52 pm Interesting suggestion, I never felt a real attachment to the Classic Commemoratives though. In most hobbies, $500 a month would be a lot but in numismatics it's just a drop in the bucket. I know that all too well as I attended the Stacks auction this January where a $10 million coin was sold. I like the idea of collecting a complete type set with gold in proof. Of course, it will take 200 years to save up enough money to complete the set with such rarities as a Draped Bust $10 Proof or an Ultra High Relief Double Eagle. Or perhaps I'll just buy coins that look attractive/ like a good value without trying to put together to a particular set. That is how I believe most dealers operate. Report this Post to the Staff

coins4fun Valued Member United States 153 Posts	Posted 02/10/2013 4:23 pm I can appreciate how difficult it would be to complete a Seated Type Set because there are so many coins for this long standing design. There's the Drapery, No Drapery, Arrows, No Arrows, Arrows and Rays, etc. Yes, there certainly are a ton of examples not included in 6 pages of the 7070. Including the type 2 gold dollar, and a three dollar gold piece. In addition I counted about 25 different relatively affordable types which are not included. Report this Post to the Staff

I started my own version of a Seated type set which includes all of the major types, obverse and reverse, as listed in the Red Book. johnny54321 Rest in Peace United States 4849 Posts	Posted 02/10/2013 6:06 pm With that budget, you could continue expanding the gold type set to include Classic Head design, "motto/no motto", type 2 gold dollar, $3 gold, etc. The next step, where I am at, is trying for pre-1834 gold which is very challenging to say the least. The Standing Liberty quarter series is also one of my favorites. You could also do a mint-mark type set, with one coin from each mint regardless of coin type (anything dahlonega or charlotte being the keys). Report this Post to the Staff
