@TaroChan, did you get your rolls from the boutique store or RCM?
Has anyone received from RCM as yet?

How long does gatewest usually take to ship once the rolls aren't backordered from the mint? I'd like to see one of these in person and had never ordered from GW before this!

I spoke to GW earlier this week to order the fractional set and wanted to combine shipping with the penny rolls I ordered last week.
He said they were extremely busy with all the orders for new releases and couldn't possibly put them together because of the sheer volume of orders. No big deal for me.
I was told it was going to be about 2 weeks to ship the fractional set and they have that in stock.
I'd guess we'll be waiting a bit longer than normal for the penny rolls.

but what's the point of ordering these rolls, paying the ridiculous premium for shipping, and then peeling off the wrapper just to find there's nothing inside but more pennies? I thought the point of buying this was to have an intact roll of 2012s with the special Mint wrapper?

Because in bottom line it just a roll of pennies, that costs $9.99. I do not count shipping - it was ordered with other items.
Short term loss - $9.49, but in long term each penny could be sold as "Penny from the special Mint Roll"

Mot more interesting - what is exactly inside it?

Can you imagine the controversy of finding a 2011 penny. How many people would open their rolls? How many of the 20,000 would stay intact?

@ Silveroid

But once the pennies are removed from the roll they are just pennies - how can you prove they came from this special roll? Or for that matter, if you did open it and found a 2011 penny inside, how would you prove that? Film yourself opening the roll and going through them all?

As far as I can see, the only value this roll has is in remaining intact and unopened.

Unless you find a 2011 coin. Then the next roll with a 2011 coin could be worth $1000. But proving it would be difficult.

@lyradnoj

You correct, I joke about selling them as "special pennies".

And whatever I will find in the roll, I do not think that need to find the way to prove it. I will post the pictures, but to believe me or not - this is the choice of each individual. Everything could be faked, even the video.

So it more for fun and "control check", any unusual item if will be found, will be kept for myself only.

why would you ever think that their would be anything but 2012 pennies in the special rolls?

@brexzz1

How can you be 100% sure they are all 2012 copper pennies. You saying the mint never made a mistake. Do you think the mint actually individually counted all 1,000,000 pennies. No they did not. The count by weight. But counting by weight you can be as much as 0.1% off. That's 1000 coins more or less. So if they were short 1000 do you think they struck 1000 more pennies or put in what ever was on hand. Could be 2011 pennies, maybe a metallic penny or the ever elusive 2013 penny. You never know, but we're going to find out.

THAT'S IT! Every collector secretly thinks/hopes/wishes the Mint really did make a few 2013 pennies, swore all their employees to secrecy, and had them tuck these rarities away in the special 2012 rolls. To find one would be just like winning the lottery!

in order for a 2013 penny there has to be a set of dies made they are not striking pennies since around april of 2012. how even the RCM if an employee wanted to, can they produce a penny today by misstake. if you can presell these rolls on ebay at these amazing prices what is everyone waiting for.

You can never be sure. It possible they made a proof set of dies to put the penny in a specimen or proof set for this year but changed their minds. What if one of those test pennies got in to the 1,000,000. We don't, might happen. Stranger things have happened. Just look at the 1973 mountie quarter large bust, those got out. Some people are saying Winnipeg loonies got out, don't remember the year but some loonies came with a W. So are you 100% sure there are no errors. That's like saying don't play the lottery, there is no chance of winning. People win all the time. Can't hurt to open the roll, no different then putting down $10 on lottery tickets. Might find that elusive 2013 penny.
