I certianly hope to see you do the right thing ,,accept the coins , leave the seller positive feedback ,, email Him and let him know that He needs to correct his auctions,

I agree completely. It stinks, and that's a lot of money, but in the end you have nobody to blame but yourself. Certainly not trying to sound harsh. I also agree that you should submit the best coins to a TPG and have graded.

Speculate on this, what if the next batch of Presidential dollars have twice the amount of errors. People will then start realizing the rarity of what you have. Of course, it could go the opposite way, but you get my point. While you may not get your full amount of money back from this venture, I think you can recoup most of the cost.

Good luck whatever you choose.

Always honor your bids, it is the honorable thing to do. You knew exactly what you were buying. Pay the seller his money ASAP.
Rest in Peace

"Pay the seller his money ASAP."

I already paid the seller with Paypal as soon as the auction ended.

"Get on with it and get over it. Be a man."

It's not the "be a man" part I have trouble with. It's the "dealing with the wife, who will flip out, & doesn't even want me to collect coins, let alone buying them" issue that I'm having trouble with.

Well...again, you should have considered that prior to the purchase. Taking responsibility for your actions is a big part of being a grown up. Your wife probably loves you, and will forgive you (after awhile.)

Just list them for auction ASAP before the continue losing their worth even more. Do it as a lot or individually. Who knows, you might be able to get all the money you spent on them.

Bidding at auction, ebay or live auctions, is like gambling, if you don't have the money to spend / lose, then don't play.

I suggest that when you receive the coins list them on ebay and get back what money you can and call it a lesson learned.

They were sent to me US Postal Service Priority Mail on Tuesday morning. I'm hoping they will arrive today, Friday. If not, they may not arrive till tomorrow or Monday, as the price could be dropping.

Four questions:
1) Should I list them now or wait a day or two to see them when they arrive? If they turn out to not look authentic, i.e. fake, or if they look circulated, then I'll fight to get all my money back.

2) Then I would have to remove them from ebay. What are the repercussions from that?

3) Better sold as a lot of 15, or 3 lots of 5, or individually?

4) Better sold as "Buy It Now" or auction?

My Advice:

Tell your wife you made a mistake. This is far more important than your money issue.

Take responsibility for your mistake, both with your wife and the seller, and you will not regret it.

buyers remorse is not a good reason to try to get out of buying the items you bid on. Just because it says certified in one spot, he clearly states in another spot they are not certified so he covered his rearend there. I think this is pretty lame for you to try to get out of buying the coins just because you had second thoughts and the price has dropped since you bid on the items and you aren't going to make as much money as you originally planned you would make off of this deal. I think we all have bought coins that we thought would sell for more just to find out we lost money when it came time for us to sell. Like I said this is just lame and its people that keep doing this kind of stuff that keeps giving ebay a bad name. In my opinion if you bid and you win, you pay as quickly as possible and the seller ships as quickly as possible and ebay would work just fine. This buyers remorse stuff just don't fly and you should have thought about that before you hit the bid now button

No, but I'd be willing to bet that from this topic, you're already on quite a few BBL's.

I know I sure as heck added him to my BBL because I don't need to do business with someone like this

I offer this at this risk of appearing to "pile on":

The majority of folks have given you advice to the tune of "you made your bed, now lie in it."
I would like to say that this is IMO the best advice.

My input before was intended to express the idea that if you made the seller a reasonable offer to compensate him, he might be reasonable in turn.

I did not take into account the rapidly depreciating nature of the coins your bid on, nor your profiteering intentions.

However, I am still unsettled by the question of a return policy. We have all seen "no returns on bullion items" before. We have all seen "returns only for misrepresented items". I see no limitation on his return policy. Although it might be unsavory of you to return these coins, I am not seeing how he could refuse you. Perhaps someone familiar with ebay's seller terms can enlighten me?

P.S. What does the seller mean by, "Sorry, no reserves"?

P.P.S. This sentence from the auction also bothers me:
quote:
Since in my position, I've handled these coins with great care with gloves and are in mint condition.
I think I know what he is saying, but I wonder if he is illiterate or if he is perhaps trying to make me think he is illiterate.

P.P.P.S. I really hope they're real.

I can tell you had the buyer waited for the coins , and then posted here for advice because the coins were not as described, or were altered, or for that matter never showed up the responses would have been much different .

But He posted the problem as being buyer side related (Buyers Remorse )based on a devaluation of these coins (which by the way has been discussed here and was forseen by most ) the seller has no obligation under that circumstance to accept a return of the coins .

at that point the buyer then tries to manipulate the return system to achieve the return of His money ,, not a cool thing for the many honest hard working ebay sellers who are here.

Bryan1315:
1) I did pay "as soon as possible.

2) I did try to get out of buying the coins just because I "had second thoughts," and NOT because "the price has dropped since you bid on the items." I tried to undo the deal three hours after the auction ended.

3) My rating till now was 100% from all sellers; I've never made such a mistake before. This was a huge amount of money to me that I thought I could recoup. Plus, I felt comfortable with his money back return policy.

4) Also, Bryan, nowhere do I see that he says "not Certified." He specified "Certified."

Meanwhile, it's now 3 full days & after 4:30 pm & no coins delivered yet.
