Picked up 95 rolls of pennies at the banks today with older Canadian finds being: 1932, 1938, 1944, 1945, 1950(2), 1952, 1953, 1955, 1957(3), 1958(2), and 1959(3). Also found 6 wheat cents and a 1966J German 1 Pfennig. The most interesting find was a 1953 Canadian silver dime with a hole in it that looks like it is from an old square nail.

I like that 1958, does it have a die clash at the date?

Quote: I like that 1958, does it have a die clash at the date? Thanks, I like it too. I wasn't able to really capture the toning in the picture but it has nice eye appeal. I hadn't given it a close look but yes it is a die clash.

Ok I did another box of dimes and finally found silver one 1968 50% and one american 1951 90%.
Oddly there were 6 rolls of american dimes in the box. Thats where I found the silver ones the 1968 was the only canadian one in those rolls.
On another note I've got 120$ in american dimes and nickels now, Anyone know if any bank will take these?

shaneb, the Canadian banks will only give you cnd face value for US coinage. You best payback is to repatriot them if you travel down South. I don't think the gas stations like it when I pull up and pay in rolls of quarters or all the tolls with halves and dimes, lol!

Ill just keep the nickels then because there the same as our 1982-1999,2000,2001 and 2006 copper nickel ones.
And Ill give the dimes to my mom for when she travels there because I never do.
I can see why they wouldn't like being paid for gas in quarters.

OK, my Canadian friends, can you help out a new guy? I thought the pennies were taken out of circulation in the Great North. Did they just stop minting them and they are still used for commerce? If so, is there a lot of hoarding going on? Thanks. PS Any tips on the Stanley Cup? I think one of the hockey players should fill it up with pennies on the day they have it. That would make for a fun CRH (Cup Roll Hunt).

Welcome Uncle Bob , CND pennies stopped production in May 2012.They will always be legal tender to pay for things in Canada. The mint is withdrawing the pennies through the banks and melting them for metal value (ARP).Some banks will still sell you pennies and some will not.

I recently got into coin roll hunting (last thursday) and had no luck with my two rolls of Canadian dimes. Afterwards, I went to Tim Hortens to get a coffee and what do you know, a 1967 centennial dime in my change. I was thrilled!

Not any bank will give pennies. I live in a small town with 8 banks and not one manager I spoke with will allow the cents to be distributed
