I remember reading on this forum that the pointed 5 was created with collectors in mind and they make up 0.1%? of the 1985 produced. I think. I don't really remember now Either way that 85 has seen quite enough, time to be retired! Rackster, the Canadian pennies from 1982-1996 are 12-sided. The Mint says that it's easier for visually impaired people to identify, but Striking Impressions says that it's to save on material cost. Maybe both.

Quote: I am 2/3 through a box of nickels and hit a number of Canadian (I think 15 to this point) including a 16? Sided specimen. Not bad. (Close - they're 12-sided.) I always love finding 12-sided nickels, even if they're the more common later years. What year did you get?

Oops, I misread that nickel as penny I've only found 2 of the 12 sided nickels (but then I don't roll hunt anymore either). They were made 12 sided so that when they switched over to the tombac alloy people won't confuse them with cents when they tarnish. Since the collar cracks at the corners when they went back to use nickel (it's a hard metal), they made the 5 cent coin round again. A bit of trivia... Thomas Shingles cut the matrix for the Victory nickels by hand since the RCM didn't have a reducing machine.

Went through 5 rolls of CWR this afternoon and got this coloured Cindy K. Don't see this quarter out in circulation to often. Well worn.

The 64's sides are like a normal nickel, but it looks like it is in very good condition with not to many scratches or nicks from being environmental.

Searched tow boxes of nickels and found these 3 1950 nickels. Is there a way to clean the rust off them. And whats with this 2011 it looks like it wasn't stamped right.
