@allspice I've belonged to a number of online survey panels for the past 2-3 years. Makes me a few extra bucks to spend on coins! I remember filling out surveys specifically for the RCM at least twice during that time period. Questions on what kind of themes are of interest, what type of coins (silver, gold, steel etc), how much I'm willing to spend and so on. As well, a survey was recently sent out to MC members directly. I believe it's discussed in another thread in this section.

I agree with Rockdaddy. At least Gatewest isn't a scam job like Colonial Acres....they pretend they don't know how many glass butterfly they are getting...but everything else from the release is for sale? No doubt they will not sell ANY at issue price. CROOKS.

Anyone know when the butterfly coin is expected to ship from dealers like CC&C?

Tristen1230 What has changed with this new release, it's been the same story for every hot coin over the last year or so, nothing new to see here. ðŸ'¹

Quote: Very interesting, however, Gatewest does not have voicemail! If you call Gatewest before/after hours, you just get a ringing phone. Try it right now. Perhaps you were calling Albern Coins in Calgary, which is on Mountain Time?
Cameron, I called the numbers on your website and got a recorded woman's voice indicating that you were not opened. Gatewest Stamp & Coin Ltd. 1711 Corydon Avenue Winnipeg, MB R3N 0J9 CANADA 204-489-9112 For Payments by credit card: Pay online!, or: Within Canada: 1-800-565-2646 As for the butterfly; why not take on line orders? Get a decent system that tracks inventory...see colonial acres or canadian coins & currency if you need an example. Based on my experiences in more than a few industries, building software in-house is a fool's game and now you have what you have, which is subpar at best. I too have spent a few thousand dollars with GW and have never heard of your discount program....am I to understand that whenever I do business with a on-line retailer, I should call them and ask if they have a discount program!? Seems to me that it would be in your best interest to inform your good customers that you offer a discount? As it is, I spend considerably more at CA because they do offer me a VIP discount. Your loss. But you're big enough that losing one customer doesn't matter, right? Wonder how many retailer have gone out of business with that kind of thinking!? I will say, that I applaud your efforts to enforce limits. I suspect it has more to do with building a customer base than it does with nobility but either are valid pursuits. And I will also say that all of my dealings with GW have been good. My only complaint has been repeated here. Why charge before you ship? Virtually no retailers do this and it requires the customer to surrender some rights via your terms of sale. As you probably know, credit card companies discourage that practice and it creates a very difficult situation when the mint delays the release of new coins. My only other complaint is your packing material. The pizza boxes are ok - sturdy etc - but the newsprint is terrible. It smells and the ink transfers to the coin packaging. It's really a distasteful experience opening a GW package. In any case, I hope you continue to contribute to this forum and that you have thick skin. Quote: Has the Mint ever tried surveying its customers with the kind of products they like or would like to see? What they are willing to pay for certain products? Yes, the RCM does these surveys every year or two. The last one I took was in June and was concerned with themes for 2014 coins. Lots of 'anniversary' stuff again.

Maybe GW and CA can do the same thing as RCM does, offer hot coins with original price to VIP customers. not sure if it's a good idea...

How do you make the distinction between Hot-Normal-Garbage. A lot of coins have been over hyped that should not have been classified as Hot. Then what happens when there are more Hot coins than Normal ones.

I like how everyone has a solution to the glass bug ordering problem. Everyone's solution would get them the coin. LOL.

Actually I think most people would like two coins; one for themselves and one for flipping, sorry I mean for their mothers for mothers day. Yes, they want at least a coupl coins. But increasing the mintage would be a no-no because then everyone else would get the coin too.
If I had one of them I would run a contest where everyone could write an essay why they should get the coin.

I really don't see much difference in the temperature once I receive them. Maybe its because by the time I received them they had cooled down.

Quote: Do I personally collect coins? Not one. Oh, I shouldn't say that, I collect the ones I've had a hand at making.
@Locutis This part of your post was interesting. Can you elaberate? Which coins and how were you involved? I'm sure that lots of us would genuinely like an insight into the process that results in a new coin.

Privy mark Silver Maple Leaf coins, some of which Gatewest had made for them.
Anyone can get a custom Privy Mark Maple Leaf, providing you order a minimum amount... I am surprised the hyenas here have not tried that trick yet - order a special privy mark maple leaf, destroy/melt all but 1000 of them and then try to sell them at outrageous prices.... maybe coughing up that much money up front is what separates the puppies from the big dogs... I am sure will we see it, in time - greed and human nature dictates it...
