Oh. Privies or Lego = not so interesting.
I thought maybe he was involved in designing some NCLTs. I've heard Bromberg suggest that he has been consulted on coin designs so though maybe they involve other dealers too.
Plus I enjoyed hearing from Robert Ganz regarding the mantis coin so was hoping for a similar story.

Quote: Now, you might say "why don't you just sell them all at issue price, you're getting a discount anyways?". The answer; why should we? As long as there are people who buy from us to resell for a huge profit then we should be allowed to do the same. We're a business. Love this. So the flippers should register for a business name and legitimize flipping by saying they're a business as well. Justifying raising prices on a hot item with the above quoted text is tantamount to saying "we'll only sell at issue price the coins that won't increase in value" and to giving a finger to "true" collectors like the flippers are doing. I will find it hard to believe that dealers don't jockey for allocation on a hot coin. The bottom line is GW is trying to make money the same as flippers/hoarders/collectors-with-a-mind-at-value. Any extra work at limiting sales to 1 person at a time is bonus, and good for them for setting out to do it. Official dealers that stick to issue price regardless of a coin's resale value and their allocation of the coin from the mint is hard to come by. I only know one for that matter.

I know of several dealers, who regularly set aside items, which are sold at issue price, to their established, loyal clientele...

At the same time, there are dealers that will never do that even to their most loyal clientele.
I had spent upwards of $30,000 with this dealer. I asked if it is possible for him to save me coins that I wanted by e-mailing him ( I am referring to NCLT coins), cause I am often out of town for extended amount of time. I told him I would pay with my credit card if required as long as he saved the item for me. Flat no. He told me that I could not pick and choose the items I like. I have to buy everything.

I would say that it is time to find a new dealer...

I wouldn't be so upset if GW list their glass buttefly on ebay. But to list it on their homepage for $244.95, it kinda bothers me. I would rather see "SOLD OUT" on the GW's homepage, and see GW list their butterfly coin for $244.95 BUY NOW on ebay. That's just my 0.02 cent.

@Locutis
This part of your post was interesting. Can you elaberate? Which coins and how were you involved? I'm sure that lots of us would genuinely like an insight into the process that results in a new coin.
1908 Proof Set - When we received the antique sets in 1998, we did not like them. It was my suggestion to remove the plastic coating on them and sell the coins, and after presenting this to the Mint, they decided to make full proof ones. We still have some coins around where we removed the antique coating. 1912 $5 & $10 Gold - A suggestion to the Mint to make these, and suddenly they came out. 2003 Hologram SML - This is my baby. 100% mine. 2004 Arctic Fox - From a request to make silver versions of platinum animal sets. 2005 Lynx Set - ^^ See above. 2006 Beaver $3 - From a request to make shaped animal coins. This is what they came up with. Gold Louis Series - My suggestion made into coins. 2007 Baby Silver - I suggested this back in 2004 or 2005. 2008-2010 Olympic Set of 3 SMLs - A suggestion to do something special with these coins, taken into production. 2012 Geo III Kilo - Another one of my babies. Didn't turn out the way I liked it. If you could have seen the original idea vs. the final product you'd agree. There will be 1 or 2 more this year, hopefully May/June and September. These are under NDA. I never did like the privies. Locutis

Locutis How does this process happen? To be selected to input on coins. Do you need an "in" with a dealer or is there a mint contact?

Locutis How does this process happen? To be selected to input on coins. Do you need an "in" with a dealer or is there a mint contact? The process is different now than before. In the past, you didn't officially get a coin done for you, it had to go through several channels, and it just came out of the Mint after being vetted by marketing. Now, however, it is a very arduous process. First ideas are presented, then designs are made, and a contract/agreement is negotiated. Some of the process is under NDA, which means I can't discuss a lot of the process. However, I can mention that minimum commitments are required, and approval through all levels of the Mint and government are necessary. It's actually not that easy to do. Several idea designs have never made it past ideas because they were deemed to be not marketable by their marketing department. Locutis

So if someone is interested in this.... Would they contact marketing at the mint for further direction?

I don't know the requirements for those who don't have a dealer distributor rep. The financial requirements are huge if you want to be a part of the project. If you just want to submit an idea and then find out 2 years later they made coins with your idea, I'm sure you could just send a letter/email. Locutis

My order number is in the 5800's, and the order status still says processing. But I got a big smile on my face when I saw they charged me, that is enough progression in the order to make me happy right now :)
