Well done! Got one of those in my collection but it was from a dealer. Never yet dug an Elizabeth I coin.

The style of Middlesex Regt badge came into use in 1896. It remained largely unchanged throughout both world wars although after 1916 it was issued in brass only 'economy' style and 1942 it became plastic rather than the bi-metal that yours was made in. The battle honour Albuhera dates back to May 1811 and is the same battle that gave them the nickname of 'The Diehards' after the rallying cry of their stricken Colonel.

The Regt had some interesting battalions including in WW1 the 17th which was the football battalion being made up largely from those involved with the sport professionally.
