Just picked this up and it wasn't cheap at 90 Euros hammer.
Hope the grade justifies my bullishness. Rim doesn't look great but I would think XF or AU. The W mint mark indicates James Watt and Co, Soho Foundry, Birmingham, later to be swallowed up by Heaton.

Spots could be removed verdigris...would it still slab with numerical grade and if not, would an NCS submission
ameliorate things?

There will still be something left behind... they're too pronounced (esp. reverse). I think whether it could get into a "problem-free" holder post-conservation is very iffy. Either way, that question is something to be pondered beforehand, rather than after.

Remember, copper people value nice, smooth surfaces with perfect color (near as possible)...

Those spots look like toning left after verdigris has already been removed. I doubt they would/could even be removed without completely destroying the coin. I would leave it as is.

As these coins in high grade cost several thousand dollars according to my research I am still pretty happy with the purchase. My best shot is ANACS apparently.
