@justsilver: Thanks for checking! It must be another typo by the Mint.

The RCM has released a brilliant series . The gold coin will hit 2500 bucks for sure ....think about it...only 2K minted and youve got collectors paying up to 2 million bucks for a superman comic book...whoever decided on the mintage didnt think that one thru......everything about this release is a perfect storm for collectors and investors alike of both stamps, coins and comics......on a par with the Gold Hoard release of last year but I predict these coins will be all gone by midweek 18th sept. 2013 at the latest

Quote:You entice a lot of controversy in a post like this. I personally wouldn't call them ugly... Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Fetish interest in a man in tights? Come on. However, your point about secondary market saturation, the flipping phenomenon, etc. is valid and it is not about to change. In talking with a Mint rep, this marketing technique has been very successful. Elite MC, MC members have morphed into small resellers - without the price break dealers get! Dealers are happy too because they can markup even more once those coins hit the ebay shelves. Everybody wins. MC member limited to 1 coin, and a more open release policy that favors the individual collector aren't going to happen anytime soon. I could have left the fetish interest in a man in tights for another argument. But I don't see how this benefits small flippers any longer. I am seeing a lot of people getting burnt thinking every coin is going to be the next ladybug or steel bird coin. The GitD Dinosaur series is already dead. While you make a great point about this benefiting dealers, I don't see how this is benefitting hobby flippers if they always get burnt. In order for this model to be sustainable, there needs to be profit for the hobby flippers. If the hobby flippers start losing money, then everything starts to depreciate. I don't think there is a bubble that is going to explode or anything, but I do think the Mint is pushing this so hard that we will see the return of depreciated coins in the hobby. Since around 2007, the Mint has done an amazing job protecting the value of their coins and securing the value of a NCLT collector's collection. The releases are now monthly. A coin now only gets a few weeks to generate popularity before everyone moves onto the next coin. Small 10% increases in the resale cost of a coin is amazing if you are a dealer with an established business and website, but it sucks if you are a hobby flipper losing 10% off ebay. Everything is just haywire right now.

@Lithanial - I don't think small flippers will benefit for long. Personally, I believe that the current marketing strategy will collapse if the RCM does not limit and guaranties access to the regular collectors base. But I've predicted many things in the past that later turned out not to be the case.

@CASSIDY77 - For me I am keeping it for awhile. So in my case hopefully for a few generations which probably almost all the coins these day will be valuable in mint condition.

I see the Superman achromatic at my local post office... Not very impress at all... I order one, and I think I'll return it back... Like all hologram coins, it's always ugly... I had small hope about this new technology, but again, I feel disappointed... Anyone see it live?

I'm a newbie here and I have a question for all the "old-timers"... ;-) A lot of very sought-after recent coins (Superman Gold Coin, Autumn Bliss, etc) are marked as "Awaiting Stock" at mint.ca. Their website states that: "If an item is awaiting stock, does that mean it is no longer available? No. When an item is shown as "Awaiting stock" this means that it is on backorder. Items on backorder are normally re-stocked within 2 to 4 weeks." But everyone seems to take for granted that they are sold-out at RCM and won't come back at retail price. Is there something I'm missing? Is there still a reasonable chance that the Superman Gold coin could come back in-stock for retail price in 2-4 weeks at mint.ca (even for a short time)? What about the other "a-little-less-popular-but-still-popular" coins like Autumn Bliss?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Case-100-BC...360380439180comic book hard pvc plastic holder on ebayi think the printed material by the RCM is also good collectible potential and nice artwork I agree with members comments about the over production of RCM series however with the superman series you have a serious crossover into comic book collectors territory which will capture a lot more interest. As much as I like the Autumn Bliss and Bumble Bee type coins I dont think they will have the same collectible general interest we are finding with the DC Comics authorized Superman Design series

http://www.ebay.com/itm/7-5-x-11-x-...em19b7baa5cdthis is a better ebay listing for rigid plastic comic holders the seller also handles smaller sizes for brochures and booklets..shipping is a bit stiff but the product looks tight and they ship to Canada. Check out the prices paid for Superman comics on ebay and youll realize why the RCM coins are popular

There are ocassions in which pre-determine hot coin become a bust and people returning the coins. In those case, stock become available a few days later (dino 2, skimmer, grandma moon mask, two loons). If the coins is doing well in secondary market, there's no chance of that coin being available or being restock.

Just received my two 1/2 oz modern superman coins in the mail today from the mint , I really like the display cases they come in, lets hope the mint does more of these types of cases in the future. The coins are nice but I prefer proof/ proof like coins , I will just have to make an exception this time lol...one will be part of my set, the other I am not sure of atm, most likely just hang on to it long term.

I received my "Shield" coin on Friday. Really nice coin but it's crooked in the holder and I don't want to take the tape off. Did anyone else have this problem? Did you take the tape off? Not sure if I should take the tape off or leave it.....
