Someone on RFD forum said it had a mintage of 20,000. I hope that is true.

Quote:These Superman coin's are ugly. ebay is already saturated with them. I don't know which Superman coin is actually the gem in this pile. This all leads me to believe that these coins are not going to appreciate very much. There is way too many people hoarding and selling them and it seems like the dealers are waiting for other dealers to start selling them before they release their hordes. Is there actually anyone that actually wants these coins for their artwork and fetish interest in a man in tights? Or is this just for resale It is obvious you have not been following the thread much but the concensus is the Superman coins are beautiful. You are the first person out of 22 pages of this thread to say they are ugly. How could you make them more attractive? I guess the Mint can't please everyone. As for flipping versus collecting, there is probably both but a lot are buying them because they find the coins attractive. The only coin worthy of flipping is the Gold coin which sold out in 3 days everywhere. Of course the reason is that the limit is low at 2000 and the coin is spectacular looking. The high price of $750 is not deterring many people from buying it. Without it they can't complete a set.

Picked up my S-Shield at the post office yesterday!!... Great looking coin... However the capsule came loose in shipping.. the square plastic case has a ton of little white marks where the capsule was bouncing around... A little disappointed in that..

Hi folks! I never understand why some people feel the need to dump on the enthusiasm others. If the intention is to just be are party pooper, it really doesn't work and just reflects badly on the pooper. P.S. There is also the snob factor which sometimes plays a role in this kind of negativity. Just my 2 cents.

Quote: Got a S shield coin on Saturday, # 51 out of 15000 Mintage is only 10,000 on the shield coin. So its 51 out of 10,000 ...nice low number though.

Quote: Someone on RFD forum said it had a mintage of 20,000. I hope that is true. It's good to know but I was not talking about the mintage or the fact that it is awaiting stock. I was trying to see if this coin&stamp set is actally "seralized", as the Mint's website claims. In the past a few coin&stamp sets were seralized (e.g. the Queen's Diamond Jubliee set). So I want to see if that is the case here as well.

Congrats on getting the book, Tristen! As a comic collector, I find that any books kept in plastic tend to shrivel over time without cardboard backing. Also, humidity is a no-no. FYI....

I wish I could find like one of those comic hard plastic holders. I am trying to think who would carry them in my town.

I personally wouldn't call them ugly... Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Fetish interest in a man in tights? Come on. However, your point about secondary market saturation, the flipping phenomenon, etc. is valid and it is not about to change. In talking with a Mint rep, this marketing technique has been very successful. Elite MC, MC members have morphed into small resellers - without the price break dealers get! Dealers are happy too because they can markup even more once those coins hit the ebay shelves. Everybody wins. MC member limited to 1 coin, and a more open release policy that favors the individual collector aren't going to happen anytime soon.

I have Lenticular coin & stamp on my hands now (bought from CP outlet), I opened up the plastic cover and couldn't find any serial number.
