I took off the tape as I don't intend to sell/ship them again and I didn't want the tape to cause a problem later on by leaving residue on the coin capsule and the holder. Some tape really can make a mess after its been on something a long time.

Also the tape is the kind that you can pull it up and restick it on with out doing any damage , at least while its new, so you should be able to pull it up on one side and move your coin around and re tape it. If you are just going to resell it then let the buyer worry about the tape..P

It will leave a mark if its left on too long but the type of tape they used comes right off, no mark. But I guess its all in the how the collector views their coins I guess, mint in original condition could mean with tape still intact , but for me the chance you take by leaving it on is worst then taking it off now. It takes away the viewing appeal having the tape there, its only meant to keep the coin in place during shipping, that's it.

Thanks for the recommendation Northerncoins.

I'm worried about the same thing lostwords.
I'm guessing that they used a removable adhesive.

I'm not reselling it but also want to keep it in "mint" shape.
I'm going to remove it I think. It kind of ruins the display with it being on there.

Edit: Just removed my question about it leaving a mark as you just answered it, thank you!

Even for the moment will not think to leave that tape (didn't get "The shield" yet)
This for shipping only and doesn't look good for display.

Majority of tapes, probably will leave the marks (since it is thin layer of the glue), but could be easily removed without any damage from the plastic surface.

don't you take a warm moist (not too moist!) cloth to it to carefully remove it? or a hot hairdryer?

Guys I pulled mine off and no marks,,its a type of tape that will not leave a mark/residue as I could not see anything left behind and it came right off easily . Long term, I don't know about though, I am guessing it will leave a mark if left on for years.

Wow no do NOT use a hairdryer....

Tips on removing tape residue:

Use another piece of adhesive tape to gently apply to the residue. Repeat with another piece of tape until all gone. I do it all the time to things I bought with those price stickers on them. Works 95% of the time. Only problem is with stickers that have been on for years.

Warm water won't work.

You can also get glue removal stuff like Goo Gone. Costs about $5 a bottle.

You are right, Northerncoins, don't leave the tape on for years. It will be really hard to take off since it is dry. Do it now that is fresh.

I've just received S-shield coin (very nice, sometimes simplest coins are the best) and Modern Day coin (not bad). I like the presentation box.

What I see is that RCM website is improving ... it shows my shipping status with tracking number in this order that has just arrived and in another order that is arriving tomorrow.

Special RCM tape - it comes right off without leaving a mark on the capsule.

But they use a lot of it, so it keeps running out, which is why their shipping is so slow. They're always waiting for more tape to be delivered by Canada Post, and we all know how slow that can be.

Yes that was the first one that I ordered just for that reason when they still had the ? up over the blank coin ,I figured it would be nice.

The shield is not as popular as some of the others. But that hard work they have to do to make the coin, makes it worth it in my eyes. Thought I'd get my coins today but no show I really want to see it in hand.
