@john100....I think that if you examine the art world you will find that the real product usually retains and increases its value. Prior to the modern phenomenon of brand fakery most counterfeiting efforts were directed towards original paintings ,coins and other luxury items. This did not undermine the value of the original product. Even in numbered original prints the signed items have kept their value so I dont think you can definitely say that Superman coins will lose value because of a bunch of plated iron coins at flea markets. You can say that many people will lose a lot of money buying fakes but I dont see original pieces losing value. It will make buyers more wary of course but as to the real value vs the fake value that is a very debatable question.....The main thing is that the buyer knows what they are buying....more and more we see that coins are becoming susceptible to technical wizardry which can still be faked...in the same way that precious stones and diamonds can be faked. I dont think it can be stopped and we have to be continually on guard and educate ourselves..I agree with you that in this case the RCM must be proactive on ebay.

Fakes of the gold superman coin could definitely cause the real gold coin to increase in value as the more fakes out there put more of a spot light on the real thing, as they say any publicity bad or good can be a good thing as far as getting more people interested in a product, in this case a low mintage gold superman coin. Just need to be sure to get the real thing if your buying one.

Wow, if fakes causes original products to go up in value, then Apple, Cartier, would not need the teams of lawyers to combat this endless issue. Cheap knock offs always hurt the real products in price and quality if it didn't all companies will act like the RCM. Limited edition prints are kind of a real product of the original copyright holder. Take the gold superman coin, if the fake is an exact good copy, when you want to sell the original you would have to have it graded, or the buyer needs to crack it out and xrf it, how would this increase value?

I think this issue of fakery gets to the root of coin collecting period. Anyone who considers themselves a serious coin collector is not going to get any pleasure out of collecting modern fakes. Especially when they are produced in the thousands...Comparing with Apple and Cartier doesn't make sense because if you buy a fake I phone that works as well as a real one then youve just saved yrself a bundle and Apple has good reason to fear that.... but if you wear a fake Cartier watch your kind of playing a joke on society because most polite people wouldnt ask you if its real or not...........but if you show off your fake superman coin collection as real then you probably have mental problems! Showing off your fake rolls royce isn't going to impress anyone either..Rare Coins are an investment which depends on their authenticity for value and fake coins cant take that away from them.

Less people wanting to sell their "real" gold superman coin because of the extra "hassle' would lead to higher prices.... Btw I am not defending fakes what so ever, I wish they would all just disappear, but since they are out there I was just pointing out the effect they could have on the real thing such as a 2000 mintage gold coin. Anything that is mass produced in the millions...well umm...Fake or real ,,it wont matter much anyway such as the case of throw away stuff like iphones and other disposable junk etc.

I think the superman gold coin will do fine regardless of how many fakes are out there because most, if not all are fans and collectors who actually want the coin. I've been trying to get one for 1,500 for the last 2 months with no luck.
The silver ones might be in trouble as some folks are buying it for their kids and the kids won't know or care.

I agree and quite honestly if the mint doesn't drop the mintage's to a lvl that might give a small amount of hope that their coins will atleast hold their value all I can see in the mints future is downward trends in sales of NCLTs.

I note that the fake Superman set sold for 33.00 plus shipping. I was almost tempted to get one just to check the quality but why pay that much when you can get one for less than 20.00 including shipping from Guangdong China Home of the fake coin factories. on a more serious note I see that the NGC PF 70 Gold Superman sold for 3000.00 best offer accepted..I would be curious to know exactly how much it sold for and I will definitely consider doing the same because now that the fakes are out the really good prices will be for the certified coins. Its definitely worth the 50 bucks or more it takes to get a gold coin certified.

I was browsing all sold auctions and noticed a complete set of Sman coins, including gold sold for $700. It's just sad when someone ends up paying so much for a fake set. I didn't copy the listing number as there's nothing I can do. Periodically I will search Solds in Commemerative to see what coins are selling for. I hope the buyer realizes these are fakes and gets their money back.

This is a letter copied below...i sent to an ebay seller who is currently offering a set of fake superman coins as an RCM product..they already have bids over 100.00 on it....this will now become my pet project exposing the fake coin sellers on ebay of Superman fakery..if you want to be part of this collective please send a note to ebay about this listing...This affects all of us so if you want to do some coin community service this is a good place to start in my opinion....here is the listing url FYI http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-SUPERMAN-...eid=72000949you are either a con artist or completely ignorant about coins if you think these are real RCM coins..I am part of a coin community collective that will actively pursue your disbarrment from ebay unless you change your listing description..we will not tolerate the selling of fakes as real coins on ebay

The NGC graded Superman gold that sold recently went for a best offer on 3000.00USD...a little bird told me it sold for 2400.00USD or 2600.000CAD.....Ive always maintained that the Superman Gold will increase in value based on scarcity and demand values .....i think any Superman Gold coin under 2000.00 is a good buy right now..it wont be long before the Superman Gold coin will regularily sell for over 3K

The Superman fake set was voluntarily delisted and the seller sent me an apologetic letter claiming ignorance of basic coin collecting principles... so that is a good start and I'm sure Superman is pleased about that......

Congratulations on making the milestone!! I'm can understand why your so pumped on the gold coin, and I truly appreciate the time & effort you put on trying to rid ebay of these fake S man coins. With the coin community watch group disbanded, I wonder how many fakes will now start flooding ebay !! More fakes were listed yesterday, and I just don't have the time anymore to do the reporting.
