It's incredible how the fact of not being able to get the Superman gold coin at issue price could led to psychological issues...

Almost everyone is missing the point on this important issue, unless the RCM and only the RCM can ask the RCMP and CBSA to enforce Canadian law. Unless there is of lost sales to the RCM or political pressure, nothing will change, we cannot ask the RCMP or CBSA to act on this issue. If enough RCM customers complain and threatened lost sales is in my opinion the only way to get the RCM to do the right thing.

People could start putting 5 star reviews on the mint's website for these coins that are being counterfeited and state " gorgeous coin but don't buy it here, you can get the exact looking coin on ebay for $5" See what they do after lots of those reviews. Maybe they will lower their own prices.

Good funny there but unfortunately, the RCM does patrol their comments section and they delete (or don't post) what they don't like. I don't think many people are 'missing the point' on this issue but I do think it's optimist to think the RCM, CBSA or RCMP can do much about off-shore counterfeiting. Perhaps the best thing they could do is educate the public that they need to be careful when purchasing coins from unauthorized sources. Maybe there needs to be something in the mainstream media. The best way to stop counterfeiting is to kill the market for those copies.

Nickelsguy has worked on this issue for many years and has tried to get the RCM to act on this issue with little or no help, why I guess because we keep buying their coins so they don't care. If the RCMP and CBSA were included they would be on the watchlist for these fakes at mail sorts and border crossing and most of the fakes will be found. Right now you could order online and have them shipped discreetly because the government agencies are not on the lookout. All other companies take proactive actions with fakes or the market will be flooded.

They also have another titanic ad and several plated coins advertised as real metal in the titles, they definitely need to be reported.
Just yesterday I talked to a fellow who had 6 of these coins listed, in his description he said he bought them in a group from the uk. I explained what he had bought and he graciously withdrew his ads, he had no idea they were counterfeit. He was very surprised as he has been collecting for 53 years. I had him google articles on mike, and he replied " and there were my coins". He had asked me how I knew they were counterfeits. It goes to show, sometimes even long time collectors are fooled. So again let's help each other keep the community safe!! Reporting and education are the key.

@pocket change 50 about your post, I believe a lot of the victims are from out of country who hear or read about the RCM coins and have little access to the real thing. With limited knowledge they look online and see a lower priced item and buy it not wanting to pass up a good deal. Or honestly some just can't afford the real thing. John100 is correct, The RCM at the end of the day has to make the call. It would be a shame if someone new to collecting were to read or worst fall victim to these fakes and in turn stopped collecting all together.

@ chubbycheeks this is why education is so important!! I try and promote CCF by telling my customers about this site. I hope my efforts will promote awareness among some collectors. It just takes 1 extra line when responding to a message. I enjoy the majority of my customers, as I take time to converse with most of them. I firmly believe this is an excellent site for education. The problems of fake coins is distressing. It needs a community effort until the RCM decides to take action, this is unfortunate!!

Quote: It would be a shame if someone new to collecting were to read or worst fall victim to these fakes and in turn stopped collecting all together. Yes, that is a concern. But what worries me more, is that the average Joe, who simply can't afford the newer RCM high prices will gladly get the "fake" for cheap and figure it's "just as good." What's to stop people from collecting these copies and/or giving them away as gifts?!? It's common with jewelry, after all. It seems that the average Joe is just as happy as getting close to the real thing, if the real thing is too expensive.

I was talking with a friend in Arizona , apparently he ended up buying 2 fake glass coins. He was fortunate to get a refund and he's an experienced collector, who does the registry set thing. It just shows almost anyone can be fooled until the coin arrives.
