Andrew289 I would suggest you take a loooooooong hard look at world coins, both past and present, before you refer to them a junk again. Beauty, art, history and culture awaits you and, for the most part, you won't find much of that on U.S. coins in the last 4 decades. I wasted almost 30 years turning my nose up to the Darkside and deeply regret that mistake. The internet has opened up unlimited opportunities in numismatics, not to mention huge buying, selling and trading opportunities world wide! await The force is strong as the ranks of the Darkside grow with every passing day. If nothing else take a walk thru ebay to see the value and beauty so many are missing. You will learn history that was never taught in school and find art and beauty being minted all over the world. There is NO end to what you are missing! Take it from someone who used to be just like you!

I would hardly call Australian Nugget coins "junky" gold coins! And I certainly wouldn't compare them dis-favourably with US coins as regards quality!

Chrycopaul - I love your use of capitalization and punctuation marks. Very colorful. I might suggest the use of some emoticons in future posts. Have a great day !!!!!!

I dunno, but I'm the Emoticon Police, and I've had my finger poised over the Lock button on this thread all day. I've already ripped one set of posts out of it today. I'm thinking that some of our membership has forgotten what this forum is about. There are comments in this thread which are at the absolute outside limit of what will be tolerated.

Methinks you are perhaps a little too tolerant Dave.

quote: My family is traced back to the Mayflower so this is all I've known
Hi andrew my family is also traced back on my mom's side to the mayflower ,, its cool to know someone else who has that lineage back to such an amazing group of people .Maybe one day we can compare notes its more than likely our ancestors knew one another . Now what country was that which claimed this contenient ? Im pretty sure that at that time there was no US coinage,, that did not take place until well into the 18th century up until that time we had circulating coinage from very many different countries ,,Ireland ,england ,france,Mexico to name but a few ,,these coins continued to circulate for sometime after the US started making its own coins well up and through the civil war times,,now its very true that a person should have pride in their own countries coinage,,but to have a true reflection of our History as a nation ,, many other countries have also been contributors . Jim, that's a very nice coin! Are you going to be collecting just gold or expanding into all sorts of World coins? Andrew, it cannot be tolerated for any members to disparage anyone's collecting interests. That said, your use of the words "junk" and "junky" are simply not acceptable here. The overall tone of many of your posts in this thread is very negative. We are a community and, as such, need to respect each other. Even if this is the way you feel, you need to consider your words and whether anyone could be offended by them. Please consider others' feelings when posting here on CC. I am requesting at this point that you go back to your past posts and edit them to make them more acceptable. Jim1953 started this topic on a very positive note to share his expanded collecting interests. This is one of those cases where, if you can't say something positive, it really isn't necessary to say anything. FYI: Canada is known for making much purer gold than the US and many collectors feel that the US coin designs are very stale and start collecting World coins for some variety.

Thanks Forum Mom for the explanation. I did a search for the word junk and I was surprised to see that the membership has been using the word quite frequently to disparage many collectors interests for quite a while. Since I've been taken to task for using the word, this will serve as a warning to all of the membership that the "J word" is no longer welcome anymore on these pages. I'm sorry to hear that you are reading more into my tone than is there. The written word often suffers from the lack of emphasis and inflection making e-mail and board postings sound totally different than ones speaking voice. Meanings are often taken the wrong way. I admit that I did get a little curt with Paulie but he made a wise crack and I only responded in my defense. I'm sorry that I overeacted to his comment. In this day and age you can't dumb down all speech so that no one will get offended. Personally, I find it offensive that so many members constantly attack the President dollars and call them UGLY but I don't get my knickers in a wad and cry to forum moderators. Maybe I should. I think that UGLY is a disparaging term to those who work hard to collect those dollars. It's demeaning to read and makes me feel like my collection is less than worthy. Can we ban the use of the derogatory term UGLY in that instance PLEASE? It really takes a toll after a while. If you would please take a stand for those of use who collect president dollars just like you have done today for those who collect non-US coins; I think it would be comforting to the membership. I for one would appreciate your support. I work hard on my collection and I know how low it makes you feel to get ragged on for collecting UGLY coins. I now know how the non-us coin collectors must have felt when I called the Australian nugget coin junky. It's not junky ...just not that pretty. My appologies.
