These are in my collection.... I don't know much about them, except that they have been in the family for years and seem to be authentic. Does anybody have any info they could share? Sorry the images are not the greatest, these things are tiny!!

Thanks,

Rick

I am not an expert, so I can't tell you about rarity/variety or value, but they appear to be genuine California Fractional gold. If they were mine I would strongly consider having them evaluated and/or graded by an expert in the field. The condition appears quite excellenct compared to many I've seen, but I haven't seen enough of them to know whether we're talking XF or AU or even mint state. Someone with more experience should hopefully come along.

You might want to take the time to review past sales of similar items on the Heritage coin website. It's an excellent place to get a feel for the market and see similar coins/tokens.

I agree

Take them to an expert but be very careful how you handle these! Only hold them by the edges and if you can only do that when wearing cotton gloves. Whatever you do...do not clean them.

As a rough estimate for prices I'd say

1/4 Dollar Round - $150 in EF & $240 in AU
1/4 Dollar Octagonal - $175 in EF & $250 in AU
1/2 Dollar Round - $1180 in EF & $315 in AU

These are the miniature gold pieces, I believe. I don't think they are big enough to be 1/4 or 1/2 of an ounce of gold. I have some that are similar, but not sure what they are exactly. They are Californial gold tokens of some sort, I think.

Thanks! If you mean the Heritage Auction site, I just checked it out. Jeez... one of mine is goin' for big bucks in mint state!

I'll try and get some better pictures up tonight in the 'Coin Grading Practice' forum (with cotton gloves, of course .)

Thanks!!

I'm impressed! Usuallymore than 99 times out of a hundred when someone says they have some of these they turn out to be the everyday run of the mill fakes. I'm REALLY pleased that it turns out you have real ones.
