From the Ira and Larry Goldberg Pre Long Beach auction, September 23.

"A mixed lot of mostly Greek and Roman bronzes. 34 coins."

Hmm, I seem to be missing one! I received the package at work this week and did a quick count of the miscellaneous packages. I was in a hurry. Counted 33, recounted and thought I had 34. Not sure now whether I've misplaced one or whether there were only 33 in the package. Regardless, I'm very happy with the lot. There are some I'll actively seek to trade but most are keepers.

I've posted a few individual ones already and will post many of the others. They're all photographed now but cropping and editing takes time. If there is anything you want to see in a larger picture, let me know

That's a pretty awesome lot.

I will hopefully have my own Hadrian with Galley soon! It is one of the coin types I have wanted to a long time.

The Caurausius is also really neat despite the bad off center strike. All around an awesome set of coins.

I am only slightly jealous...that's a lie but I am sticking to it!

There are some that will inevitably find new homes. I'm not that interested in the middle and later Romans, so those are up for trade/sale. Still working through the attributions and fair market values. Might pick out a few to use as prizes in various contests, like the currently running Smackdown.

(let me know if there are any you are interested in)

There are quite a few that I wouldn't mind having also. That is a very nice lot of coin, a little mix of just about everything. The Azes, Pontos and the Roman Republic would be on the top of my list.

I was happy to see so many Pontos coins in there. I watch many of them at every auction but never seem to bid on one-- always something else with priority. I'm kinda diggin the little Republic victoriatus. I've bought several Roman Republics lately, hadn't noticed these pint-sized coins. I'm going to edit the photo of that one and post it shortly.

Soooo. I guess business must be good these days!
Quite a haul indeed. I saw the little Trajan and at first glance I thought it might be a 'brass' As of Antioch.
But I now see the little points of the crown. That would have been a 'keeper'!
Still you should keep that semis as a first century end point. Trajan just makes it under the wire.

Not sure about the Trajan. I was working on the attribution earlier, here's what I've come up with. Not sure if it is correct.

Overview-Of-The-Large-Mixed-Lot-I-Recently-Purchased
Trajan AE semis (or Orichalcum 2/3 dupondius, diobol)
98-117 AD
Rome (for circulation in Syria)-- maybe; could be Eastern mint, perhaps Cypriot
20 mm, 4.2 gm
Obv: IMP CAES NER TRAIANO OPTIMO AVG GERM, radiate bust right, folds of cloak on front shoulder & behind neck
Rev: DAC PARTHICO P M TR POT XX COS VI P P around oak wreath containing SC (wreath bow at 6:00, not 5:00)
Ref: RIC 645-650 (somewhere in that range)

Very nice little semis and your attribution is spot on. What had made my little heart go flutter was I thought at first glance it might be RIC 644 which is a curious thing ...... a small module 'brass as'. This variety of As crops up every so often. It must have been like the Susan B Anthony ..... a coin which just confused people once it had lost its shiny brass color and no doubt got passed frequently for the wrong value. I do actually have one. But overstruck and re-issued as a dupondius it is about 4/5 grams light which probably annoyed the original 'owners' just as much !
As for this owner ...... I like it !
