I agree MoneyPenney Still think - the mintage of 10.000 covers collectors needs. The dealers didn't "jump" on it too. And non-collectors...yeah, for them this series doesn't appeal.
I do not think, that the excitement of non-collectors lasts long, even for some coin like "Glass LadyBug". They'll buy it, but probably will resell later.
And the kids - I do not think, that those of them, who doesn't collect - needs the coin at all for a Christmas.

I guess we are at different ends of the collecting spectrum because the Superman coins don't appeal to me at all. I have none nor do I want any.
Also not sure I'm want to meet a kid who wants any coin for Christmas. I think most kids would rather have a Red Ryder BB gun with a compass in the stock.

The Superman coins were just mine example. I also doesn't like the gold one. Bought "The Shield", cause I like how the work has been done.
My kid asked for Star Wars Lego and Lego minifigures. Two GITD coins that I gave to him get attention, only when he have a guests, so it kind of show-item.

Quote: I live in BC and I have absolutely no interest in the Great Lakes. I could barely name all 5 of them. This statement explains a lot... Sad really...

I live in the Great Lakes region, though part of Canada I have very little interest in B.C. but we'll like ya all the same ;) .
Edit: I love all of Canada, I've been from coast to coast. I stopped in the middle, just to make it easier to get anywhere in Canada. Like a parent who loves their kids all the same, so is my love for all provinces.......except the really cold parts. :)

I don't think we have to have something in common with some subject to buy a coin. It depends on the type of buyer. I read in RCM Facebook page people ordering the GL and are not regular collectors (they were talking about the shipping fees).

To me, it's not simply where you live, but whether you're interested in geography and maps. I think the Lake Superior coin is attractive and distinctive. I would argue it's the most recognizable of the Great Lakes (years ago I read a description of it as "looking like a wolf's head") and the "key" coin in this set. I expect it to sell. I probably won't buy it, but I *am* tempted.
I'm less sure about the others. Anyone from around their area will recognize them, as would a geographile (is that a word?), but the general populace might not. Lake Michigan is probably the next most recognizable, but it's not a Canadian Lake. I think I would recognize Lake Huron on a coin without the other lakes to add context. I kinda doubt I would recognize Erie & Ontario without context. So, if Superior sells well, the set should be propelled. If it fizzles, the set will be doomed--unless the box saves the set. (Kidding on the last five words.)

I can understand the interest for the coin in Toronto since that city is on the shore of Lake Ontario which is one of the Great Lakes. Sorry, but here in Vancouver I have no interest these coins. While I learned the Great Lakes in school, which was decades ago, the Great Lakes are never on my mind. The only times when I am aware of them when some disaster occurs on them. But more power to those who like the coins; it is just not my cup of tea.

I also received a confusing invoice for the GL sub. It's my first time subscribing to a series so there might be a simple explanation. When I placed my order I received an invoice for the coin plus shipping (plus tax on the shipping). Then the next day I received another invoice but the total is just the shipping (plus tax). What does that mean? I'm puzzled

I do not live in in the GL area nor Canada nor the Americas. That you discuss what are real canadians are and argue what makes a difference show me as an "outsider" that you are one nation! Only with that freedom to question anything and talk about it make you a lively nation and in your case real canadians!
The GL are known in Europe, but not important... still I love the coloring technique applied much more than just a printed or even worse a stickered one. So will buy the set and if you all do not, this set has a chance to at least stay at its original value.....
