I bought the 10-pfennig because it looked better than your average zinc coin, and the 20-centavos was one of my very first good buys (the coat of arms was changed early in the year - mine has the old coat of arms which is scarcer). JimmyJames Valued Member United States 211 Posts	Posted 10/26/2013 7:33 pm I would say the Germany 10 Pfennig zinc coin is very nice. It looks like there's very light darkening on the high points, so I would say it's a choice AU based on wear (the most wear I see is on the left foot). The denomination side was clearly not evenly struck with the weak rim on the right. I could see someone saying this is XF, just because these zinc coins always look ugly. I would say it's AU. So I dug out the only zinc coin I have with mint lustre - an uncirculated (but lightly fingerprinted, because zinc will react with pretty much anything) Austrian 5 groschen, pictured next to a much more typical 5 groschen. Then I took a clearer, better picture of the German eagle, because the picture up top isn't too good. So here it is between two other zinc coins... one circulated, one uncirculated. The high points of the eagle shows signs of wear, but the lower details and fields do not agree! For the record, it is KM#439, which is more scarce than KM#440 of the same year. The difference is about $6 from VF to XF, which is why I'm interested to see how it grades. Report this Post to the Staff
