There are strange defects on the obverse and reverse of this coin. I have always been a little suspicious about it's authenticity but I have never pressed the issue because it was a gift. I do not own a digital scale so it has not been weighed.

I thought I would give you guys a crack at this. Have fun!

Most of the marks look like contact marks to me. You'd get more answers if this topic was posted in the classic coin error forum: http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...FORUM_ID=137

Those are hits from the reeding of another Morgan, from knocking together in the storage bag.

They are known as bagmarks/contact marks, caused by an impact from the reeding of another large heavy silver dollar.

The marks on the cheek are contact marks, but I'm not so sure about the others.
