Look I can understand a clipped planchet to some degree markn Thanks for explaining that but still quite critical of it's status as such. I mean it is missing 18% of its metal but still it is not only struck decently but also has a full rim on top of that. What I am trying to say here is if it was a clipped planchet missing 18% of it's metal I would expect there to be at the very least being able to tell by looking at it that a bit of metal is missing. By the way markn is this the sort of clip you are talking about?

No, that's a curved clipped planchet. An elliptical clip is quite different (see here: http://www.australian-threepence.co...-coin.html). And as to that 20c having a full rim perhaps you're looking at a different picture to me but it's got no rim from the bottom left of HM's portrait right around to the I in Elizabeth. I see evidence of fish-tailing on the ELI showing that the coin was struck like that. I also see rim flattening opposite this area (Blakesley Effect) suggesting the coin was underweight when rimmed. Perhaps it's not an elliptical clip but I am 100% certain that coin was struck on an under-weight planchet. The only uncertainty is WHY the planchet was underweight.

Haah thank you markn you are a very smart I absolutely agree with you and thank you for shearing. oh my florin I am trying to get the mans name now that worked at the Australian Royal Mint I'm trying to get in contact with Peter Simpfendorfer who is the director of the wagga coin and stamp fair I'm sure he will tell me his name. I will reply when I get in touch with Peter as his is the only number I have....
A pretty ambiguous and vague term, my reply to that is it was luck but thank you for taking my word.

I agree with mark as well. Not an explanation I could have ever thought of but it makes sense.

I see that mark that is one I personally didn't expect but still slightly skeptical that it would be missing that much metal and still display those details

Oh my florin. The older man that worked at the mint and that I spoke with yesterday at the coin and stamp fair in regards to my 1979 under weight 20 cent coin, his name is Toney Byrne.

Now for some more luck i though I was ringing a coin dealer but by chance I rang Mr Pitt the owner of ......RENNIKS!!! His publisher is putting together another book of his and he might put my coin in there he said to try and get a lot of exposure and told me to contact coin magazines so collectors will then know about it, I even told Mr Pitt about this forum and emailed him a link to this post!

I wasn't saying you were lying at all. Frankly I hadn't heard of him attending that show personally and now that I know he does I may start attending. All I was asking was if he was now dealing in PCGS graded coins as the last time I dealt with him I didn't notice he was and if he is now perhaps give him another call to see what stock he had.
