I have seen Ian Pitt of Renniks several times at Sydney ANDA coin shows. I believe that he lives in Sydney. I also know Tony Byrne from Canberra. He is one of Nature's Gentlemen. A better guy than him would be very hard to find indeed. He has helped me with a number of coins, with information I could find nowhere else. As for underweight planchets, I have a 1967 British Penny. It is fully struck up, with fully formed rims, full diameter, and only about 70 % of the correct weight. In this case, it was the product result of protest by the Mint employees in the Tower Hill Mint in London. The new Royal Mint in Llanstrisant in Wales was just to about start production of the new decimal currency coins for Great Britain. Basically, the employees were told that they could retain their jobs if they moved to Wales. Not surprisingly, some of them wanted to continue to live in London. They took the form of protest by clandestinely rolling thin blanking strips, and striking pennies from those strips. At the end of a late evening shift, they just threw handfuls of coins over the perimeter walls of the old Mint, to be picked up by previous arrangement, by passers - by. My coin is one of those, and is one of a hundred or so.

Nope still no luck I did get another email from the mint. I ask if they could tell me about if there was any medals or medallions made around the same time. PLEASE read the disclaimer at the bottom. I am sure I can use it but no one else can take copy or use it without my permission. Dear Candace Is difficult to find much information on what else was made back then apart from coins and it is because of this that we are unable to provide you with any further information. I reckon markn is right candace and its a clipped plachet rather than a wrong planchet. All the signs are there.

Yes markn is right about elliptical clip but as they have said it still dose not explain the weight as it is still lighter than it should be with this error so to speak. My next thing ill be looking at is the P mark on the coin as this might give me some answer ill start with Perth Mint I think and go from there, also the weight of coins made before mine as its the only other thing to tracking down the planchet I think I might even slightly look into pre-decimal I know it might sound a bit much but these are the ONLY avenues left and the P mint mark and pre decimal go together.

Candace it couldn't possibly be pre decimal tho they were struck on copper and silver not cupro nickel (excluding the trial pennies in the 1920's which were struck in cupro nickel but the planchets were square not circular)

"I am defiantly going to SELL IT" do you mind me asking how? will you be promoting it as a wrong planchet error or just as an unknown error? I only ask as it would appear that the majority of people here do not think it to be a planchet issue and without confirmation it could be a bit misleading to sell it as one

Im sure if it was nothing Toney would of said as soon as he held it in his hands, I will not sell it by myself a dealer will ill take it to Canberra just after Christmas as I don't want to post it and its the closest to were I live, I'm sure will be called a wrong planchet as Toney Byrne has said it is. It is on the wrong planchet we just cant find which one it is, and if we cant fine the planche's name ill get that on paper to regardless ill get some sort certification verification authentication and if there is any pcgs or anda people on hear they probably have not said anything because I might of already spoken with them ether by phone or email, I also have other emails that confirm its a genuine error by coin experts I haven't put all my correspondents on here that iv had with people about this coin but before it goes up for auction ill print out the few I have and give it to the ANDA auction people aswell

I will say when I found out it was a genuine error my intention was to sell it, its just I wanted to find what the blank planchet was before I let it go.
