Wow

RedBook for this coin is $35. I didn't know a die rotation could bring such a premium...well at least make someone ask that much

From what little I know, the market for error coins is rarified...and some errors bring much higher premiums than do others. I would hesitate to pay a big premium for "rotated dies" unless I was much more knowledgeable about the series and the "error." It may be worth that much, it may not. I'm certain that the market for it is narrow; therefore it could be quite difficult to sell the coin at a later date for what it is supposed to be worth. On the other hand, if this is a variety/error that is avidly collected, it could be worth every cent of the asking price.

Ya the price surprised me, too! I've got one of these in MS60-MS63 raw that is also a "very rare" Breen #1933 (listed as such in his encyclopedia, open E's on the reverse).

Mine should be worth a fortune if this one is truly worth $300+.

It seems way too expensive to me. I put together a rotated die exhibit last year for our local coin show and purchased a couple example coins to display. A no-problem 1806 Half Cent in F-12 with almost a 90° rotation cost $85 (about the same as a normal coin). I bought an 1865 3˘ nickel from a Jack Beymer's ad in Coin World. This was a 195° rotated coin in EF45 grade and the price was $55. I can accept that rotated FE cents are hard to find, but that price seems ridiculous to me. Just my opinion!

This auction is no longer on Heritage's website! It says "Invalid Item
The item you have requested is no longer available."

It was a PCGS VF 1858 Flying Eagle Small Letters with a 30deg reverse rotation; and annotated as such on the holder. It was listed for $322. I wonder if someone purchased this?

I found this one on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/1857-FLYING-EAG...OR_W0QQitemZ a href= https://www.coincommunity.com/go/link.asp?target=https://www.ebay.com/itm/-/260129353039 target= _blank rel= nofollow 260129353039 /a QQihZ016QQcategoryZ11942QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

That coin is worth $30 on a good day with no mint error, so the fact that it sold for double it's worth tells me there is a market for these with the right person. Also, this coin's die was only rotated 10-15%, where mine is around 30%.
