Please excuse my ignorance if this is common. It is a 1921.
I'm mystified.

Please post better pictures of the spot in question and some full coin photos.

It kind of looks like a stain in this picture.

You are absolutely right 7TF. It is a stain. Clear after I zoomed in on the picture I copied from ebay.
Saved me lots of time and maybe some money.
Thank you for that. And for a lesson well learned.

A 1921-CC?

It won't be a die clash; perhaps something postmint on the coin. I see the line extends up towards the arrowheads as well, and I don't know of a die crack in that configuration on a 1921.

This looks to be an interesting coin, and I'd love to see full-face images of it. The largest wreath leaves and talons tell me it's very strongly-struck, and the surfaces hint at quite the luster, to say the least. Note the brighter areas of the field around AR - see the die polishing? I lean away from it being a brushing, as in that kind of light you should also be able to see the brushmarks clearly on the letters.

I've seen similar die polishing on 1921's before, but rarely. This one may not be a rare variety or high grade (yet to be determined) but I'm left with the impression of a very early strike from the die pair, with excellent surfaces. Not common at all with 1921's.

#1Tthose holders are not worthy. More than likely the coins are both MS62 or lower and probably cleaned.

#2 I think the die polishing lines SuperDave was commenting on look curved almost like a cleaned coin in the full picture of the reverse.

#3 a 1921 coin is not worth more than $75 in MS64 with a PCGS holder.

Be Very careful when buying any graded coins. Even PCGS & NGC over grade and make mistakes.

I could be wrong but I would suggest staying away from those holders unless you are getting them really cheap on auction.
