The 'replicas' look likes like the old design without the new security features. Could these have been minted too early before the mint management decided to add the security features, and instead of re-melting the old design, just decide to sell them off as a premium version? I realize the specs say 'reverse-proof finish.'

Just ordered one sml replica and the "Fu" coin. That's it. Sml replica won't be shipped until March so I might change my mind. The Mint should have priced it at $60 instead.

Like so many people on this forum I will be cutting back on my NCLT purchases. I may even let my MC membership lapse. During the last quarter of 2013 I only bought the Candy Cane coin and $20 for $20 coins.
I don't find any of the new issues interesting. Plus the Mint is releasing way too many coins. Not to mention the high mintage for each coin. 40,000 for the WWI Silver coin? Too high.
And I can get these coins on sale at the end of the year.

Quote: 40,000 for the WWI Silver coin? Too high. The annual commemorative silver dollar is a consistent seller among a group of dedicated collectors. I believe the RCM has a good handle on projected sales volume for these traditional coins. The proof War of 1812 silver dollar, for example, had sales of over 39,500 out of an authorized maximum of 40,000. The RCM has not tried to turn the annual standard edition silver dollar into a "flipper's coin" to generate excitement for its products. It always has - and hopefully always will be - a coin for traditional collectors. The WWI coin may not sell out, but I believe it will sell well in excess of 30,000 units.

Coins are interesting, I find good that among them there are designs that appeals for different collectors: SD, Annual sets, SML and GML and others.. Regarding SML / GML nowhere mentioned "replica" (probably, it from the earlier communication), but appears "Premium version of the bullion design". It even premium struck for added relief...well, sounds not the same as standard SML. And for "Premium" need to pay extra. The special dollar from the gift sets anyway will be offered on ebay for the price of full set, so it's better just to buy the set, take out the dollar and use other coins as change. I liked Maple Leaf Loonie from "O Canada", it so good. And these dollars (as it appears on the picture) do not have ugly (IMO) round "security feature".

I talk about the prices to my rep and she says she was aware of this but they cannot do something. I told her that if they want to lose long term customer like me, they do all is possible to lose my hard earn money and spend it at the RCM. So, for the people who have a rep, if you just tell this kind of thing on a forum, nothing gonna chance. If everybody who are "real" collector, not flippers, tell to their rep that they are very frustrated, maybe, and I said maybe, the RCM will do something... I already spend half the amount I usually spent in 2013 and it looks like I'll cut my expense again with what I see with this first batch of new coins and prices... I took the Fu, but for copper with silver plate, for me this coin should be sell at 25$... They can easily drop their price by 10% and I'm sure lot's of people will salute this... Maybe I'm dreaming...

The brochures sent in the mail call them "fine silver bullion replica". If they have changed their wording I think its a smart move. I think if you look at the other mints though, the price should be $10 - $20 cheaper with spot price being as low as it is. The US mint has the 2014 proof eagles listed at $52.95.

I agree, silverleaf.
Although that Mint positions the coin as "Premium" edition, the good price for it could be $55-$65 and not $80.

I agree. $55-$65 is a range that is competitive with what is out there and I wouldn't feel like I'm getting ripped off. Even the f15 maples (which used to have the reverse proof finish) were usually around $60.
Don't get me wrong though I love the look of reverse proof and would like this coin but I think I will hold out for when I can get it cheaper.

I agree with most of you that says the cost for NCLT is way too high vs spot prices. The only coins I will purchase from the Mint in 2014 are the 20 for 20 (I maintain this collection), but singles only. My MC membership will definitely lapse in 2014. Given that the finish of the 2014 $5 Silver Maple bullion coin has changed for the first time in 25 years, I bought one from ebay for $31, shipping included! Bullion and circulation coins will be my main focus in 2014.

I would agree that if the price of the silver maple replica was set at the 50-60 range I would purchase it. I'm sure Canadapost and dealers will be stocking up on this one and a sell out at the mint will may occur. But the coin will be abundant everywhere else. I'll gamble and see if I can obtain it for lower down the road. ( 20k is still a lot )
Perhaps sales this year will be dismal and by 2015 the mint might come back to their senses. That's optimistic they will probably keep at it until their house or cards tumbles down on top of them.
@cowboy905 that beaver does look very tempting.

The beaver replica coin would have been perfect except for the 50 cents designation, one hopes the RCM has oversaturated the marketplace and their dealer network will continue discounting to relieve the Overstock. Do not see any quick sellouts with January's releases.
