Typically, January - Spring is slow for NCLT's. It is always those overpriced proof sets that are the main highlight of this season. Spring is when the flipping season hits. Right now is a good time to buy bullion related coins. All the new releases are coming out. Also, the bullion related coins have finally started to come down in price. We can finally get Rwanda Silvers under $40, the Canadian Maple Leaf in the low $20's, the Koalas, Pandas, and Kookaburra's in the mid to high $20's. Dealers have finally caved in and are selling bullion at a reasonable price. This is a great time for Bullion.

People are still flipping coins? Days of flipping are over. Last year only a few series was worth flipping, like the glass butterfly, the Superman coin series, duck subscription, and spring canopy. Everything else was a dud.

The only people who are making money are dealers who get a discount.

I'm not worried about not getting anything I want...I'm just more concerned about going through withdrawal. I haven't bought a coin in a month now. That's a record for at least the past few years! haha

I love eagles so I'm eagerly looking forward to seeing the next 100 for 100 coin. Not sure why the Mint would come out with replicas of their bullion maples, but I guess anything to make a quick buck. I will get one anyways since I love coins with maples.

The Silver Maple Leaf replica could be desired by the people.
Minted with different (from bullion) finish and initially having price smaller, then usual 1oz NCLT could make it lovely item.

Except this - mintage 20.000 is not high, and they will not have "security features" as it appears on the 2014 Bullion SML, which make the replica "closing" period of 1988-2013.

IMO, nice to have.

Reminds me "Special Penny rolls' - overpriced, but inexpensive item with mintage of 20.000, that were produced (packed and labeled) to make a buck, and had a great success.

The new sml replica probably looks a lot like the 1989 proof sml. The date and portrait of the Queen are the only differences? Hope they go with the old portrait, but that wouldn't really make sense. Mintage of 30,000 of the 1989 version? Anybody know the issue price back then?

The people didn't mention, that it "Proof", so unlikely it will be as 1989. It could be Reverse Proof or Mate Proof....we'll see in couple of days.

@Silveroid, you're right, the finish could be different. I don't mind the proof finish though. From the "sister forum" a poster mentioned it as a replica. Imagine if it's exactly the same coin as the bullion, but in a fancy maroon case and a price of $79.95 instead of a bullion price of about $25.

Thanks CanadianCoin1999 for the email. Looks to me like a matte finish on the sml replica.

Hopefully, that's not the case.
I also less care about the finish, but expect it (the coin) to be different in something from the original bullion piece.

I think I'll buy the proof set and that will be it for me. But I still haven't placed my order yet and debate if I should stop buying coins completely. My wife thinks I should start building our kids college fund instead. Good point, since they don't really care about coins beside what they can buy with them...

Anyway, I'm no longer qualified for MC anymore because I fell below the purchase threshold.
Rest in Peace

My wife would empathize with yours. However, with only one kid in college - I'm fine. I'll keep collecting, and just hope I get the mail before she discovers what I've bought.

@Dcadon - The one thing I always remind my wife is that we paid off our house with the sale of my coins. I had good NCLT years on ebay once gold hit $1k+ and I sold all my $100, 200, 300 and $350 coins with phenomenal profits.

Recently, my wife tried to sell a brand new leather purse she paid $200+, and got a big $5.00 for it.
