I have found this coin. As you can see, it's a large coin that is copper (colored?). On the side I have pictured, you can barely make out a head, and pretty much nothing else. On the reverse side of the coin (not pictured) it is completely worn, nothing is visible at all. I know from an expert it is NOT a Colonial coin, US Half Cent, or large cent. However, he was unable to identify the coin or give me any further information. Thank you for any and all replies.  |

Can you post a picture of the other side so we can see if it is an Australian Half Penny or Penny or something else.

I cant tell from the photo, If you can see a kangaroo it is a penny or half penny.
I cant tell the diameter from the first picture, A Half Penny is 25.60mm wide and a Penny is 30.5 mm wide.

I could be wrong, but according to Wikipedia, the Australian halfpenny was 25.5mm in diameter while this coin is wider than that. I am by no means an expert but it seems it can't be the Australian half penny.

Using ruled paper, a pen, and my ruler I found that it is very close to the 30.5mm mark. It is somewhere between 30 and 31 but I can't get more precise. I can't see a kangaroo, but the head looks right, and to me it does look like the Australian one penny that I am comparing it to on Google images. It is too bad I don't know the year.

Very very wild guess: Napoleon III 10 centimes. [Numista link: http://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces320.html] The head doesn't look like George VI to me - not enough protruding hair at the forehead. And while it could be just my imagination, I think I can see Napoleon's beard (the image is too blurry, and there's a dark spot just at that place, but if that beard is really there it should be easily visible in hand). Apparently, this is what a George VI Australian penny actually looks like in this grade. IMHO, nothing like the coin in the OP. |

january1may: Incredible! I THINK this is it! The Napoleon III 10 centimes.
Comparing to the picture you provided, I found some similarities that you can't pick up in my photo.
1. The circle around the portrait is there for sure.
2. Under the neck, I can make out 5 characters. Very faint but there are there. "BARRE"
3. The beard!
That was one heck of a guess, but I am almost positive this is the coin.
