Hey everyone this is my first post of many. I've been collecting coins for as long as I can remember thanks to my grandfather.

I got this coin a while back from a friend. It was in with a whole bunch of British Half Pennies.

From the research I've done it is a luxembourg sol coin.

My question is.. Why is there no markings on the back?
Is this an error or a fake?
Or is this a normal occurrence with all the circulation?

It looks like it is just very worn down.

Nice coin, though!

To me it sound like they have rubbed down the size of the coin so it could pass as a English coin people do it with Canada 5 cent coins here in the UK so they can add them to bags and put them in the bank

Can't think why or how an English person would come across a 1 Sol coin from Luxembourg from the 18th century and then proceed to wear down the reverse to pass it off as an English halfpenny.

Just natural wear. Maybe stuck face down in running water which would wear one side down.

And welcome to the community legwagon.

Hi there was a massive shortage of copper coinage during the king George II & III period with mass usage of fakes & other coins re-stamped also a lot of trade in copper was happening and a trader would have just weighed the bag of copper coins and taken it in payment
also had hunderds of coins of this period from seas & rivers and all have a pitting to the surface

Have you got any Canadian "shaved nickels" on hand? I am interested in modern coins that have been modified to pass in vending machines and the like.

This is indeed a very worn coin. I have a Luxembourgian 3 sols of Leopold II, and although the reverse is not totally worn away, it is also very worn.
