Since ebay had done away with charging a fee to create a listing, the numismatics listings have become flooded with absolute garbage coins. Not sure if the listings are scammers, due to lack of knowledge or research, copycat listings, or a combination of each....but I really find it hard wading through all the garbage listings before finding what I have actually searched for.

Why does ebay allow these listings with blantent false or misleading descriptions of coins? If an item was in another category with a completely false description, the listing would be removed rather quickly. Trying to sell in this category by actual sellers or dealers must now be rather difficult.

Tell me about it. I have about a thousand coin listings on ebay. I buy a lot over there as well and it is a huge time waste to surf through all the garbage. Most of my time is spent searching specific sellers that have treated me well.

But it is not just the scammers that waste your time Sellers who run "auctions" with outrageous minimums are a pain. I normally look only at auctions that are closing soon. Over 90% (world coins - not USA) of them never get a bid because of the high minimum or high shipping. Big waste of seller's time and MINE. If you know how much you want, don't run the coin as an auction. Sell it at a fixed price.

Take a look at this seller that feels he/she is a Numismatics Expert and has become very good at finding "Rare" and "Valuable" coins. Unfortunately this seller has no idea what the difference is between Errors and Die Deterioration, Over Polished Dies, Ridge Ring and so on. Hopefully this sellers listings are removed before a buyer gets scammed....It would be awful if one of these over-priced trash listings were purchased as a gift for a collector.

Well, at least the bidding begins at one cent. Postage is another issue...

In years past I recall seeing auctions for cheap coins but the shipping was an outrageous amount. Hopefully ebay has nipped that scam in the bud.

They took care of it by charging a final value fee on the shipping.

Ha! Looks like an airport toilet. I suppose it's not included in the listing.

I found a seller that really takes the cake. It is very plain to see this seller has very little knowledge of Numismatics or the Coin Minting Process and has not researched the most common of coin errors. Very likely has been putting a lot of time into watching the videos from the YouTube wannabe Numismatics Experts that will say and show anything in their unregulated and non-fact checked videos just to get more views and using the other listings as examples of "Rare Errors" from the other sellers that are just as uneducated on the subject.

Don't dare pointing out facts, give proper examples or explain how damage, Strike Doubling or DDD are not "Rare" or "Errors"....the seller will lash out with a childish rant and cannot be wrong or mistaken. It's all rather funny, but sad at the same time that he/she cannot be shown to be wrong. You will also be accused of being part of a group of people that know one another, have no idea what they are talking about and are just trying to stop the seller from honestly making money from rare coins....(what they believe are "rare" coins and refuse to research, because they don't want to prove themselves wrong).

It's amazing that a corporation as large as ebay allows for these very blatant Non-Error coins to be described and sold as such. It seems that certain items get overlooked while others are closely scrutinized.

Missing the "Outer Layer"? Since when does the Jefferson nickel have multiple layers?

Fun-Thread---Worst-Coins-On-Ebay,-Etsy,-Craigslist,-And-Other-Buying-Sites!
Missing the Outer Layer? That would leave the inside black colored zinc core exposed. Which would quickly corrode and disintegrate. Nothing more than a Post Mint Damaged coin.

Since when does damaging clad coins in a fire make them "Very Very Rare"?

Wow! A Magnetic Canadian Cent? Someone alert the Smithsonian! This is just as rare as the other Billions that are in circulation. SMH

The US Mint must have had really low standards for Proof coins in 1945. Correct me if I'm wrong....but I'm not aware of the US Mint producing Proof coins in 1945.

Missing the Outer Layer? I can't tell, due to the brown Environmental Exposure Toning/Damage on the coin.

Fun-Thread---Worst-Coins-On-Ebay,-Etsy,-Craigslist,-And-Other-Buying-Sites!
Claiming to be a Clipped Planchet, but has no signs of Blakesley Effect..... nothing but a cut damaged coin.

Fun-Thread---Worst-Coins-On-Ebay,-Etsy,-Craigslist,-And-Other-Buying-Sites!
These must only be considered Rare when they have a big fingerprint on them.

Fun-Thread---Worst-Coins-On-Ebay,-Etsy,-Craigslist,-And-Other-Buying-Sites!
The "Extreme Doubling" must be under the damage and Circulation Wear.

Fun-Thread---Worst-Coins-On-Ebay,-Etsy,-Craigslist,-And-Other-Buying-Sites!
A Broadstrike Coin that is completely round with full rim....how does that work?

Fun-Thread---Worst-Coins-On-Ebay,-Etsy,-Craigslist,-And-Other-Buying-Sites!
There are not any 1981 Lincoln Cent DDO or DDR indexed at all....they do not exist. Looks like someone needs to study up on Machine/Mechanical Doubling.

Fun-Thread---Worst-Coins-On-Ebay,-Etsy,-Craigslist,-And-Other-Buying-Sites!
They must be referring to the coin as "Sharp Good Condition" before all the damage and heavy circulation wear.

Lettering in the Die Deterioration Ridge Ring is an error?

Find a Lincoln Cent from the 50s or 60s that doesn't have the L in or on the rim and they might have something special.

Bobby - Igor22 posted a link at the beginning of his post...

What annoys me is that the collector searching for genuine error coins on ebay has to scroll through pages and pages of this junk! It's exactly the same with UK coins - we get the 'edge lettering upside down error' and the 'dots around the Queen's Head error' on £2 coins...
