Would really like to see a better pic of the Tim Barnard 2oz coin. It's difficult to assess the quality of the image - though his paintings are quite complicated to so that makes sense I guess. I did order one because for the unique 2oz, the use of a known artist and the limited 5k mintage. I'd be very surprised if this one survives the MC release. I only wish I had $2300 for the 1kg Snowy Owl. That one is going to be a huge hit and looks fantastic. Emily Damstra's peregrine falcon is also very well done and the 1st of a four coin series. High 20k mintage will mean it will be available for everyone. Same with the 1/2oz Grizzly - well done and 40k mintage.

@ fed_ink85Thanks for letting us know about the latest $100 for $100m being available for pre-order on the mint's site! I took a look and it appears to be very attractive, so I ordered one. By the way I was giving you a compliment when I said you were prescient, meaning that you possess astute foreknowledge.

Amazing catalog (meant for Feb release)! First time for couple of last years, I would say, that almost every coin looks extremely good. With the budget limited more then ever, even do not know, what to choose.
IMO, it was a mistake to mint a "Snowy Owl" in gold. It looks fantastic on silver (cause it proof "snowy"), and looks in-natural in the gold (yellowish metal color just not suitable here)

Quote: By the way I was giving you a compliment when I said you were prescient Thanks NuMoosematist, I understood what you meant, but like many others my rant was simply speculation. And, from the sounds of Silveroid's post the RCM might pull off another stellar month in February. We will have to wait and see I guess. Cheers and beers!

Any thoughts on the silver kilo owl anyone?

For what it's worth, the woman who took my call at the Mint boutique today (Tuesday, the 28th) said the coins were not available for purchase, but assured me all would be on the 4th of February. And when I asked if I should call to double-check, she said they will definitely be available. So this suggests they are on the premises and will be taken out from wherever they are kept immediately prior to general release.

I think a more ordinary classic owl design would be nicer, it looks a little goofy to me anyway

One guy is selling the falcon on ebay already. (Two listings from the same dealer--one at $115 with $13 shipping and the other at $125 with free shipping. LOL) The list price is $90, I believe. I will not be buying this coin new--maybe later if it loses some value. Also saw the Eastern Meadowlark and that I will buy. I'm interested in seeing the Snowy Owl, but not likely to buy it!

Quote: So, one coin of the February release is almost sold out. My rep indicated this morning that the 'majority' of the 1kg snowy owl were already sold. Mintage is only 500 so they will be gone very quickly even with a $2300 price tag. Dealers and heavy hitter collectors likely got most of them before we even knew they existed.
