Picked it up a while ago before I got more focused on collecting and would just buy whatever came along that I liked. I know know these 8 reales coin are commonly forged and I have no idea about mine. Any observations are appreciated. Report this Post to the Staff

They used a slightly variant matrix block based on the details on most of the Lima coins. To be positive, I still suggest doing a Specific Gravity test because the edge is not the greatest looking. Counterfeits of Peruvian coins were never made for the China trade so when you test the SG you are looking for a coin that tests around 10.31. At 10.2 you would still likely be fine. There are some reports of slightly deficient coins made at Lima. Anything under 10.2 but over 10.0 would be an anomaly. Such a coin has NO REASON to exist. Uf the coin is counterfeit it will test 10 or under. I do not think you have anything to worry about. Report this Post to the Staff
