There's no real need to communicate anything on the list other than you're wait listed or your order is going to be filled as a cancellation hits. Then when the max have been shipped out sending a were sorry you didn't get it email.

Most of the frustration with the mint is self inflicted from their site. Missing out is one thing but spending two hours trying to order to miss out is frustrating. This of course leads to decisions like mint to demand which never addresses the root cause of the problem in the first place.

The other option would be two order periods instead of overselling. When all the orders are sent out if there's room left in the mintage announce a date for the rest that were made to be put back on sale.

I'm game for a second minting of coins above the original authorized mintage ONLY IF like in the comic book world (at least back in the 1990's when I collected comics) the second or 3rd print runs of an epic issue would feature different cover art.

So how about the mint produces enough coins for the wait list BUT spices it up with a new finish like matte proof, vapor blasted, enhanced uncirculated or reverse proof and only offers them to those who were on the wait list

I can dream can't I.

Those would be even more in demand. It should be first come first serve and when it's gone it's gone

I've ordered and I'm on the wait list. I'd appreciate a Limited Edition BBHOF coin!

basebal - no one on the current wait list tried to order for 2 hours and missed out. By late afternoon on the 27th there virtually was no waiting to order. I ordered my clad halfs when I got home from work that night.

The only thing the mint should do different is indicate that the order you are placing is on the wait list, and spell out in that communication exactly what that means to you the buyer - and how many people are on the wait list with you. If you are number 1 or number 21,000 on that list. After that - it is up to you the buyer to follow along. (IMO)

Exactly...sounds pretty simple and very appropriate.

Edited to add:

personal example: on Friday 240pm I ordered 1 each of the gold versions and 4 silver proofs. The silver is ok but...am I on the gold wait list? or not? probably fine but I would appreciate knowing if I WILL or MIGHT get the coins. Simple courtesy and good business practice.

As far as we know, it may have happened with the gold considering they oversold the mintage by 20 percent. I was really referring more to the great ASE debacle of 2011 though which lead to minting to demand that didnt actually solve any of the ordering problems.

I disagree they should assign a wait list order number publicly though. That just opens them up to more mess ups and more frustration. A good number of wait listed people will probably just go ahead and look elsewhere once they find out anyway and if people start moving up the list they may get the wrong impression that wait listed people are actually getting any.

Here is something to think about. I placed a late order for some of the silver dollars and I am guessing that I am wait listed. However, I did just pay $4.95 for the mint to ship me my "free" bag. If my order is never fulfilled will I be refunded my shipping charge?

Merc Man... yes you will get a refund if you contact the mint. It seems a lot of people believe they are paying to ship the bag, which isn't exactly accurate. The $4.95 is to ship your order but the bag is the only item in stock, so your payment is processed to ship what they have in stock. If they ship your coins you won't have another shipping charge. This isn't any different than any other order from the mint, but a lot of people have complained since the only thing shipped a lot of times is the bag.

Foxwoods - the wait list notice went up at 6:30pm Eastern time... why would you worry about something that didn't have anything to do with your order? The list didn't exist when you ordered your coins.

It was VERY easy to place a coin in your "shopping cart" without going to the page that announced the waiting list.

I did not see a time attached to the list notice when I eventually saw it so I was concerned if my order was on it or not.

If you saw 630p then that would be fine with me. I still then believe that those who ordered AFTER 630p should have received an email stating that they are on this list. A lot of confusion would be prevented by this simple notification...no email...not on the list

Thanks again for the time notice....

Fox... there have been several articles on the net in regard to the wait list. The mint indicated they put the list up on Thursday before they left for the day, because they expected the coins to sell out over night into Friday morning. Many speculate that this actually slowed the ordering down for the gold coins and delayed the inevitable sellout. The actual time of the sellout is still not really known. It would appear most orders on Thursday were not impacted at all but until we get to the end of the orders we won't know either.

My Thursday silver proofs and uncirculated have shipped today - finally!

Hey Doug58, what time was your ordered completed on Thursday? Wonder how far down the first day order list they have gotten.

I also received an email that mine were shipped last night... They were marked in stock & reserved for over a week. I probably ordered at 2:15-30 on the day of release.
