I just recently picked up this cheap 1942 s Mercury dime, and I noticed a strange anomaly just below the bottom left of the bust near the edge. My first guess was that it was a type of PMD, but it almost looks as if a chunk broke off of the edge and moved inwards, so I just wanted to check with you guys on just what exactly Is going on here! Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I also noticed that this coin seems to have some sort of doubling on the obverse, specifically on the left of the cap and on the face near the lips and chin. I have done some looking around on the interwebs and couldnt find too much about doubled 1942 s dimes, so I was hoping someone knew enough to be able to figure out if this is actually a doubled die and if this is a listed variety! Thanks!

I see no doubled die in the photo. The shine that appears to be as a doubled line about the nose, lips and chin is the light reflecting from the corner where the devices meet the fields. The easiest doubled profile varieties for me to see with the naked eye are the ones in the Kennedy half dollar series specifically the year 1966. One can cherry these off the computer screen on a weekly basis. see this listing for example. ebay item number 301136982455 will show you a coin I recently cherried. Can you see the doubled profile on that coin?
