Based on the amount of watchers and the condition of the coin, I don't think it will still be available in two weeks when I get enough money to pull the trigger.

A lot of watchers just watch a coin so they get notified in the event that the seller drops the price. That's the only reason I added it to my watch list. If they dropped it to $250-$275 or so, I would have bought it. I couldn't bring myself to pay AU money for it given the lack of luster.

$300, a bit steep but the doubling and the appearance pushed it over for me.
Sometimes, I suppose, I don't mind paying a bit too much for a coin that I really want.
Rest in Peace

I have been collecting custom knives for a long time, and sometimes I am willing to pay a premium to get a special piece that I just can't live with out. I have probably done that with my Indians as well with one or two.

I had my eye on that piece myself for some time but the "tiger striped toning" as it was described, didn't match the look of my other pieces. For anyone who is concerned that the price might have been a little high, I've noticed that Liberty Seated halves aren't selling at PCGS Guide or anywhere near it nowadays.

For example, there is an 1861-O in XF45 with the Speared Bud variety on a major dealer website that Guide shows at $175.00. Seller is asking $800! The coin is an R-4 in XF but 4X+ Guide, well, all I can say is Wow!

I almost bought that coin two weeks ago but found a PCGS AU-55 1875 20 cent piece I liked more. Unfortunately, I could not get both, lucky you.

That would have been a nice one for my collection...but that spot is already filled.

Great variety and a good looking coin all around!

I received the coin and it is quite a looker - the toning is unusual and attractive and while some might grade it XF45, the eye appeal bumped it to AU50.

There is no doubt it is a WB-102: Doubled Date, the doubling is very clear. The head die has the remnants of an obliquely punched 1856 (slanting up to the right) under the final, most prominent date. The first digits show below the 18 and above the 56. This is an R4 (Very Scarce) in AU condition.

I will post some pics when I get the chance.

Sorry if I insult any seated coin collectors, but I've always found the pose of the model to be quite awkward and unnatural. The eagle also has an unusually short body.

OldSkool - your comment brought back memories of how I hated the design, but over several years, I now find it one of my favorites (in half and dollar format! Can't explain the change in heart really.......
