I guess we can assume the same distribution as with the Titanic? That is, 5k individual coins and 10k in the CP collector set.

If so, that makes the individual coin relatively scarce so I suppose that explains the early Mint sell out.

As I recall, the Titanic collector sets didn't really sell very quickly through CP (they ended up on the Mont website to finally sell) so will be interesting to see what happens with the Empress set. Maybe CP/RCM learned and reduced the number of sets?

BTW, CP still have the individual coin for sale.
Rest in Peace

I just received my $20 empress coin, I ordered kinda later than usual, and surprisingly, got a relatively low COA #1701 of 7000. While the 50 cent is more or less sold out, the $20 just doesn't seem to be drawing as much attention - but at $110, as I mentioned, it's a lot of money for a painted 1 ounce coin.

Oh, I thought it was the other way around as on website it shows the $20 is awaiting stock, I had ordered mine on the second day it was released (I am MC member) but it didnt ship for a long time, yesterday I called in and cancelled the order, and bought from thecoinshoppe as I wanted the steamboat willie coin as well. This coin should be good as its a part of a small series, so its easier to collect only 3 coins.

The coin is available again at the mint. I was surprised it was available, I ordered 1. Then on tues I saw it on the coin show with a booklet about the ship & disaster signed by the artist. So I ordered 2 and cancelled my mint order. The addition of more historical info to accompany the coin appeals to me. I like the set the PO has done for the silver plated coin. However, I feel it's too expensive and a high Mintage. I will wait to get it on sale.

Also, the mintage of the uncut press sheet is 5,000 pieces. I think it will compliment the coin nicely so I ordered one.

These coins and the Titanic coins should look good together.I got the silver plated Empress of Ireland and just now ordered the silver one.A bit late in ordering the silver. As CoinCanuck94 said the press sheet should compliment the coin nicely.I may even order another uncut press sheet.

I have 2 coins ordered from the shopping channel, they came with a nice booklet on the ship & disaster. The booklet was printed by Canadian coin & currency. I really enjoyed reading the 7 page color booklet. I love this coin! I too will pick up a press sheet. I wonder if they did this for the titanic , I just started collecting July 2012.

Hi R4mn33k, I received my 2 a week later! I ordered later that day, I missed the discount, but got free shipping and payment plan. I've ordered about 4 X from the coin show with no issues. The booklet is outstanding & so is the coin! I know a couple days later it was featured on TV and they sold out. On the mint site it says not shipping until June 6 or 10, I don't remember which. They are most likely waiting for more stock so they can ship. I haven't received my third coin from them either. So I'm assuming this is what's happening. I hope it helps. You can call and see what they say. I was surprised to get mine so fast.
They are great when there's a discount & coins are at issue price.

Welcome! I nearly forgot.

alright thanks for the info, I called them to make sure I will be getting it, and they said I will be, I had ordered the river rapids and the empress, both to a total of $180 with additional $7 cashback from greatcanadianrebates, I will wait until I get them to see if more are worth it for resale as I still have another 20% off coupon I got from TSC and on top of that 4% cashback, (previously 3.5% but it was applied to original price without 20% off, so I got $7.35 back of original $210) roughly $89 each until there is stock
