Wow that's a super deal! I honestly think this coin should be a $90 coin it then be a very fair price. A $109 is just greedy on the mints part. It's a very nice coin, but not groundbreaking. I think the others in the series, I'll wait to get them at a discount.

As she lays in her St. Lawrence watery grave, 100 years to the day, we remember the souls and the spirits of this truly "forgotten Canadian tragedy", today.

She was destined to be forgotten as her tragedy was greatly overshadowed by the coming tragedies of the Great War -
Both events being coin commemorated this year - with the Great war again outshining her, again, in the silver coin count to-date.
But we remember her now.

Lots of irony here, in that, as we recall and remember WWI - that same major world event that contributed to the RMS Empress of Ireland vanishing from history, she too returns, resurfaces, becomes visible again.

It took for some (moi included) a beautiful Canadian minted silver coin to learn about this Empress, and her horrible fate a century ago here in Canadian waters.
Ironic, as well, in that, weeks after the sinking of the Empress - operators of the vessel (CP Railways) dispatched divers to retrieve only one item; over $100,000 dollars worth of silver bullion from the vessels hull. The ship and its dead, quickly forgotten after that, only to be brought back to the conversation (for some) with the release of a "silver" commemorative coin.
-RIP, Empress of Ireland -

Got this coin, second silver coin I purchased over premium (previously only bought $x for $x coins) and I like the coin and the finish, also low mintage and custom box looks good as well, plus the bonus booklet signed by the author. Apparently its sold out at the mint, last time it was in stock it was 94% soldout, but Theshoppingchannel is in stock and all dealers, so the coin is not a huge hit.

I think once the final coin is released the interest in the Empress of Ireland will increase. I'm not sure if resale value will increase. It truly seems to be a collectors coin. The first airing on the coin show they sold over 150 coins, according to the on screen counter. I really like the coin & have 2 of them. I'm just not happy with the price! The packaging is outstanding, including the edge lettering. I hope the next 2 coins are of the same quality. I hope this series will complement the titanic coins & set. I love ships as a theme.

It would be wonderful, if the mint would include an information booklet for each coin. This would give great added value to the series, and a great history lesson. I feel not creating a booklet for the series is a lost opportunity. Canadian Coin & Currency created a beautiful 7 page full color booklet, with the ships history & photos. The booklet added collector value to the coin.
I enjoy these little bonuses from the company. This does lead me to think they had a part to play in creating the series.

I say this based on the following reasons: 1. Each coin they participate in development they give a bonus. 2. They had the booklet ready & were shipping coins prior to the mints date of June 6. 3. They put out a booklet for the Empress, so must had advanced knowledge of the coin.
What do others think?

It seems to be a good collector series, as long as it holds value over $90 or so I am happy, I actually bought 5 from theshoppingchannel thinking the signed booklet would add value to it, but now I am keeping 2 and trying to sell 3 of them at $90-$95ea

Also I recently started buying coins over face value (before only got $X for $X) but I noticed that canadian coins and currency had a lot of signed coins, but usually only come with a card, like the river rapids, but this one came with a booklet, it could maybe be due to the fact that they get 1 month prior notice of coins, so they can get something printed, or what you said, that makes sense as well

I know there's plenty of discussion surrounding, what I will term dealer commissioned coins. Some people feel these coins will not maintain their value. So far I don't have enough info to make an informed opinion. I have seen 1 Empress sell for $167, and 7 others go for $120-$107. When reselling make sure you building shipping and above 13% profit to cover ebay / PayPal fees & something for your efforts. You can use shipsurance to insure your package, if you choose not to track. However, you need some sort of proof of shipment.

I have the postal clerk sign the custom form copy, when I ship by small packet air. Remember to make sure you check your math prior to selling & have a good game plan. Have you been selling on ebay prior to buying the coins? I wish you luck on your sales. I also like the photo you posted! It would make a good ad photo. I was trying to upload my own photo, however, I couldn't figure out how to optimize it. You beat me to the punch.

I forgot my manners! Welcome to Feyman & Electrum . I hope you enjoy your time here, and I look forward to reading more posts from each of you.

Thanks, I used the optimizer tool, and unfortunately I can't sell on ebay, due to my mistakes in the past I am permanently banned, therefore I am selling these locally, I am not aiming for too much profit, but I got these from theshoppingchannel at about $80ea so $90-$95 locally or something other than ebay should hopefully work out.

Thank you for the nod pocketchange 50 - and for informative posts.
This is a very worthy commemorative coin regardless of where some of the input came from...Canadian theme with major timely historical relevance/event...

A heck of a nice looking coin about a heck of a tragic true moment...which does make it desirable for one's collection.

This was not some wildly fictional ghostly grand hotel- lenticular 3D - tale.

I agree the coin is a true commemorative of a very unfortunate event in Canadian history - it's the type of coin that normally interests me.

Upon reading about the coin, I was disappointed to learn that it was not a fully-engraved coin - it was mostly a painted coin. From the actual images of the coin that I've seen, I don't find the colourization to be very attractive. I see all of the colour dots used to create the 2-D image and it just doesn't look very sharp/focused. I passed.

Just my personal impressions...

The ideal case when the colorization highlights engraving, but doesn't build the image. They've better included stamp or coloured ingot to the traditional coin.
But as "item" CP's set looks good.

I'm not sure to which coin these 2 posts are directed at? The silver coin does have a little bit of engraving at the top. Are these comments directed at the silver plated one. I'd really like to see an in hand photo of the silver plated version.

The silver Plated .... imo looks like sticker, but for it's price it good item for inexpensive range collection.

The Silver one - like you said, it has little bit of engraving in the top - this is not enough, as coloured picture "does all the work"

So, it actually related to the both.
Again, will not say, that the coin are bad - they just far from being attractive to people, who like the engraving work on the coin.

Hi all,

I have the chance to live 5 km from where the Empress of Ireland sunk 100 years ago. Last week, the author was at the post office and autographed my silver plated 50¢.

I don't know if his autograph increased the value of the 50¢ but the coin itself is really nice.

If you do like the coin, the first of all, the autograph increases the value of the coin for you, as collector and local resident.
For other people....maybe, but let's say for $10-$15 maximum. I do not see here exceptional art work. It realistic and close to "reproduction" of the photo.
