From a fan of the comic Batman and a fan of coin collecting, it's truly disappointing to see Batman's 75th being commemorated by a non- relevant private mint...
In fact, it's super unfortunate Batman has zero connection to Canada.
I'm simply left to wonder how awesome the product could have easily been with RCM especially had they taken a similar approach as done with superman's initial release.
Just imagine: lenticular Batman, vintage colouring, original logo bat,
another with Robin, a couple of villains, joker for sure, batmobile, dark knight gold coin...endless fantastic possibilities - never to be seen...POOF!

There is much difference in issued by a government mint and a private mint. Many people prefer issues from authorized government mints. I think batman may have been more popular if released by US mint. For Canadians looking for a Canada dealer; the coin shoppe in Toronto is expecting to be offering them. They just announced today on other forum.

I ordered the commemorative stamps (issued by USPS) through CanadaPost. Much better value IMHO.

He already has them on the website for pre-order.
CAD159 .... not cheap, but he has to buy the coins from APMEX and than to have some profit from the sales.

@Shopaholic:
very nice, congrats. You probably collect stamps or some stamps.
But for just coin collector - what to do with the stamps....you know, they will be just stuck somewhere, and the person will know : "Yeah, I have them".

@Silveroid:
I think I can say the same for coin collectors. Not many people have the space to showcase their entire coin collection, it is very common for people to rotate the coins they display. So most of their coins are also stuck somewhere, and they will say "Yeah, I have them" a lot as well.

Made a trade today with CA for my 2014 Gold Superman which left me with about $150 cash profit (much less than I was expecting when I bought it but a profit none the less) and 50 pieces of silver - 50 mixed year SML coins - asked them to send me as many different years as they had, so I can also try to put together a 1988 - 2015 set. I think I did alright - silver's bound to go up again...

I have an extra free case from that RCM sale a couple of months ago I think will be great to display the 1988-2015 set along with some of the other special edition bullion coins ie Wildlfe, Birds of Prey

You did well, Lucv

Sure, we need to remember, that silver also might drop down.
But if any way you didn't want to keep that coin, the SML set is more interesting in collection, and more flexible investment.

I brough two from him. As a Canadian resident, it can be a pain buying from APMEX if you just ordering a small amount. APMEX don't take Canadian Credit card. Have to send cheque or money order (need to pay a fee) and the currency conversion Plus shipping fee plus there might be a chance you get stuck with deealing with Duties. For a few coins, I go with conveniency

if I was decided that day to buy the Batman coin it would be done via "The Coin Shoppe" only.
IMO, the APMEX loses a lot with their policy.
(i just do not understand it , but there might be some reason), more of this, why they do not ship to Canada via their ebay store? Strange...
So for me the APMEX just a website to get familiar with some coins.

Yeah I agree Ampex is good to see what coins look like. I wasn't aware that they will ship up here through regular site. It's so strange as shipping to Canada isn't so difficult from the states. I can't speak for other countries. I've bought from both Germany & Spain before. The shipping was even quicker and no extra fees, I made sure to buy only 99.9 silver.

New Batman coins are not impressive to my eye but I'm sure they will sell to the superhero genre of collectors...I note that APMEX is still trying to sell off its Spiderman coin for 6.00 less than original price of a year ago....and that coin has a 5k mintage....so I will probably buy in at some point when I return from Monaco..,..Also apparent is the insidious fake replicas of these coins which appear within 6 months from date of issue.....The gold Batman looks like a better investment to me than the silver coin....I would imagine it will pull a premium pretty quickly similar to the Superman gold and it will sell out fast I'm sure..Meanwhile Spiderman silver coins are selling for 20% less than issue on ebay so that is a long term investment..while on the superhero coins subject..Dr Who issue is doing great in both silver and gold..the gold coin is now at well over 3000 USD which shows that low mintage does create value in time however I might add that this price is not yet realized on ebay but I think that will change....in general with this latest Batman coin release it is clear that along with Superman and Spiderman a new genre of collectible coins is now solidly establishing itself

The Spider-Man silver is selling below issue? When I looked in Sept Solds were around $150. I do like the packaging of the Spider-Man coins. Also the packaging of the new avengers super hero coins looks pretty cool as well. They were released roughly 2 weeks ago. Interesting all the superhero coins that are being released lately. They are putting a nice effort into presentation and packaging. In terms of pure coin design I still think the RCM superman coins are tops!!

I havent been able to track the supermans in great detail because I been tracking other stuff but from the very little I seen, Cassidy77 is right.

The Dr Who gold coin, my only issue with that is one dealer sold their last one on ebay for 2200 in August.. and I believe I saw one dealer take on ebay a Best offer of 2600, prices in USD.

I do think the low mintage is helping this issue but there is not enough data to track it yet. The Dr Who silver coin, yes thats ones doing pretty good despite falling PM prices,, which again proves my point,, you buy in the secondary market ASAP.. and it builds and runs until it tops out...

that fits with my theory to buy high, sell higher or even hold for a long time and I think you have enough cushion for the dips in the coins value, which will be supported by hungry collectors...
