Quote: The slabbing can be expensive and in most cases devalues your coin. A 69 coin typically sells for the same or less than a coin in OGP. Anything lower than 69 and it will cost you dearly If it's less, can't you save OGP and crack coin out of slab and put back in OGP?

just read a note on another forum topic that suggested Superman 2015 will be released in the coming July...anyone know anything about this? I'mnot surprised they would release another round of S man coins and it has been talked about .....in this topic .....but this sounded like an actual release date possibility.....

im not a regular RCM buyer so I dont have a rep ..anyways thanks for confirming the Superman 2015 release..im not too worried about getting in on the action..when the time comes Ill be going for the gold..I really like the Superman coin releases and it will be something to look forward to from the RCM besides all their mostly usual boring NCLT ideas ..but I guess we all have our preferences when it comes to fantasy coins..hey....maybe they will come up with a 69,000 Superman 1 kilo gold coin..that would be cool and a real test to see if the man of steel can outperform bugs bunny....and his friends......

Is it illegal to buy/own the fake superman coins? Ever since I sold my gold one I have been curious to see how close the fake one is to the only remaining silver one I have. From pictures they look pretty identical but I am wondering if you had them in hand side by side if some minor differences could be seen. Has anyone bought a set that owns at least one of the real superman coins?

It is illegal to counterfeit and sell legal tender which is the exact purpose of these fake coins, since they also include the face value. Therefore, those who sell these Superman sets are doing so illegally and are labeling the coins as "silver plated replicas" in order to get away with it, even though it is still illegal.
The easiest way you can tell if the coins in a Superman set are fake is by looking at their diameter. If all the silver coins in the set are the exact same size (38mm) then you know they are all fake since they were not all made with that size. For instance, the gold superman should not be 38mm as they were made much smaller (27mm) compared to the silver coins. Also, it is fairly easy to tell the fakes from the real coins just by looking at the colouring on coins themselves as they are much more pixelated when compared to the genuine coins.

Thanks for the info coincanuck94. If they are illegal to sell does that mean that they are also illegal to buy? Or if someone were to purchase those coins would only the seller have the potential to be in trouble. I came across someone selling one of the 2013 silver superman coins locally for a fair amount less than I had seen everywhere else. It had the original RCM packaging and everything and I couldn't see a difference from the picture he provided. He said he was pressed for cash and needed to sell it that day but because of the price I was skeptical that it had been switched with a replica. This way, I was hoping if I had a replica set I could have brought it with me to see if there was a noticeable difference between the one he was selling. I realize this is kind of a catch 22 because in order to have a fake to compare to I must first support the people who are making the counterfeits by buying a set.

@SollarPenny: From all the pictures I saw on the ebay, the 2013 Superman coins fakes / replicas distinguishable from originals. Btw, do you speak about gold coin? First of all - size: almost all of the fakes in the size of 38mm (mimic of 38mm coins), while the originals 7 has different formats. Another thing - the lettering is less accurate and more "flat" on the fakes rather than on "standard RCM silver NCLT" . Just post the picture of your coin, I believe the people will provide the correct answer.

Hey Silveroid, I no longer have the gold coin, I ended up selling it locally (I bought it right from the mint so I am sure that it was real), however the guy I sold it to said that the Chinese have begun making fakes of the gold coin (with the correct size) and RCM packaging with COA's, but I haven't seen any evidence to support that claim. As far as my other 2013 silver superman coin I am sure that it is real since it was also purchased from the RCM. My concern was buying a different 2013 silver superman coin (which already sold) coin locally since I wasn't sure the best way to tell if it had been swapped with a replica. My thinking was that if I had the replica set, I could compare the replica to the real coin I own, and become familiar with the differences. This way if I got another opportunity to purchase a different coin locally I would have an easier time telling if it were fake (or bring the replica set with me when I purchase to compare and if they look 100% identical I can assume that it is fake). The silver one that was for sale I have never seen in hand or the replica in hand (only pictures) so I wasn't confident that I could tell real from fake if I would have gone to take a look at it. Are there other ways to tell the difference, such as a magnet test or magnet slide test?

Confirmed by the other forum, that the 2015 Superman release exists (with the pictures!)
But unfortunately the pictures posted on other site, where all written in Chinese letters, so the pictures hidden somehow.
Looks like, the format of the release will be the same - silver coins plus 14kt gold.
