I believe this could be considered "vignette sharing" and from many states between them. == Posted this check from Reno Water Co., Reno, Nevada; Litho byGazette-Journal of Hastings, Nebraska as few weeks ago. == == Now look at this one from Aaron Wilcox & Co., Painesville, Ohio; printed by John Gibson 32 Beekman St. New York == == by the way did you notice the Dec 7 date?

Brushy Bandit asked: Quote: Very cool! Do y'all have any checks from or to well known people ie. Doc Holliday, John Tunstel etc. Sorry, none in my collection. I'm sure, however, there are some collectors on CCF who do.

Here's a check from a small New York city with an impressive history. == == little history about the monument at the left == This Union monument keeps a silent vigil over the small New York village of New Berlin. It was erected on May 30, 1877, one of the oldest in New York State. It was erected only 12 short years after the close of The American Civil War. The Union sentinel, atop the monument, looks out over the large St. Andrews Cemetery which contains close to 150 Union soldiers. In the early years of the war, many boys and men left their hometown in Otsego County, to do their part in preserving the Union. Many returned home heroes to resume their lives as best as they could. Many, however, died in a strange foreign land, returning home once more time to be interred here. They too were heroes of the Union.

Thought this was quite an interesting check, especially since it is a radar check number; and the company has quite a history. == == Judson Moss Bemis founded J.M. Bemis & Company in St. Louis, Missouri in 1858. With only $2000 of his own savings and six sewing machines, two printing presses, and some wooden type donated by a cousin, Bemis grew his small business into the largest bag manufacturing company in the United States. Bemis produced high-quality, machine-sewn textile bags that could be printed in multiple colors. Initially, millers mistrusted Bemis' machine-sewn bags, fearing that they would not be as strong as their more common, hand-sewn counterparts. In order to reassure millers and show faith in his product, Judson Moss Bemis guaranteed every one of his bags against tearing. Bemis' strategy paid off, and the company began to flourish. During the Civil War, Bemis produced haversacks, oat bags and other materials for the army. There was also increased demand for burlap sacks made from jute, which Bemis supplied. In 1867, Judson Bemis' brother, Stephen A. Bemis, returned from the gold rush and joined Judson in the bag manufacturing business. Bemis Bro. Bag Co. opened its second plant in 1880 in Minneapolis, Minnesota; followed by a third in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1888.

Picked this one from a Heritage auction: lots of history with this area with the Railroad AND the Bank. == == == a link for the railroad (there are others) http://www.kinglyheirs.com/CNE/NDCM....VtdRNPkrKUk== == a link for the Bank and its history == First National Bank of Fishkill Landing (Charter #35) and later as Fishkill National Bank of Beacon. The area occupied as Beacon was originally settled as the villages of Matteawan and Fishkill Landing in 1709, which were among the first colonial communities in the county. Beacon is located in the southwest corner of Dutchess County in the Mid-Hudson Region, approximately 90 miles south of Albany, New York, and approximately 60 miles north of New York City. https://books.google.com/books?id=U...ding&f=false

Acquired this from a dealer friend who brought it to the local coin club meeting last night. Very plain check but the history of Henry Elling fills volumes in the Montana State archives. == The check, a "territorial" check == == == now some history about the man behind the bank Virginia City, Mont., banker. Henry Elling was born in Germany in 1842. When he was about fifteen, he immigrated to the U.S., settling first in Missouri and then following the Colorado gold rush to Denver in 1862. In 1864 he hauled an ox team of merchandise to Virginia City, Montana Territory, and opened a store. In 1873 he opened a bank in Virginia City, Mont., and eventually became the largest entrepreneur in the town. Elling was also a partner in S.R. Buford and Company; the Elling and Buford ranch; the Elling and Hyndman flour mill; the Elling, Morris and Word quartz mill; the Elling, Hickman and Olds mining claim; the Elling, Knight and Buford hardware business; and others. Henry Elling died of pneumonia on 14 Nov. 1900. == Virginia City, Montana Territory == Red Arrow: Elling's store; Blue Arrow: Elling's banking house == == more information: http://www.virginiacity.com/vcwalkingtour.pdf==

A nice check with an abbreviated timeline of events. == == == an abbreviated time line == 1628A few years after the establishment of New Amsterdam at the tip of Manhattan Island, the church is formally organized, with the Reverend Jonas Michaelius as Minister. The congregation meets in a large room over the mill which grinds the colonists' grain. 1664The Dutch surrender the colony to the British and New Amersterdam becomes New York. The church retains all its original privileges. 1696The Church is incorporated under a charter granted by King William III of England. This charter is a triumph for religious liberty. It precludes any union of church and state and recognizes the rights of all Protestant Churches. 1993Dr. Norman Vincent Peale is called to God on December 24. Dr. Peale served as Senior Minister of the Collegiate Church from 1973 until his death, and Minister-in-Charge of the Marble Collegiate Church from 1932 to 1984. His book, The Power of Positive Thinking, has sold more than twenty million copies worldwide since its publication in 1952. 1996The Collegiate Church celebrates the 300th anniversary of the granting of its charter by King William III. == link to a more detailed historical timeline: http://collegiatechurch.org/?q=cont...cal-timeline==
