Having extra sets of this Kennedy set as trading material is a great idea. I should have thought of that. I can always buy more, though. I can't wait to see these in hand.

$100 seems like a lot for the silver set. $100 is about $70 over silver value.

Sorry guys - but collecting coins I like also means collecting coins I would like to see worth something when they are sold. Spending $15 on $1 worth of coins - that everyone who wants will have is not a great proposition.
The socializing the coin collecting to make sure "everyone" gets a coin is not coin collecting. It is marketing and selling - but 20 years from now the coins will be worth no more than a common mint set from 1984 is today.
I don't buy and flip coins. I have collected coins for many years, and have actually sold very few of them. When I see an offering like this from the mint - it is added to the pile to get at less than mint issue price in the future. Resellers will be buying these at every turn to send in for grading and dump back on the market very soon at over inflated prices with useless labels.
That was my point - the market for these will be basically flat going down from the 1st - 1st strike label. Mint to demand is not a good thing for collectors but great for the large early purchasing reseller. They churn the money for 2 or 3 months while you watch your purchase do nothing but lose money - with little chance of it ever being worth what you paid for it.

I'm writing my Congresswoman to put a Bill through to create a 50th anniversary Eisenhower Limited Edition Set...will include a REVERSE PROOF 76 Bicentennial...IKES deserve a special re-release, with the new vapor blast finishes..it would be an awesome set, and, might as well make a first GOLD IKE too...they could do something for the 50th anniversary of landing on the moon, in 2019, and, use the eagle reverse too...possibilities are endless.....

Quote: I called NGC to ask about the first strike label and I guess I have to do more home work prior to submitting for this.
My fault, but I didn't know that in order to get this you have to submit them on the 28th. Mine are not even due to ship till that date.
The Rep DID tell me that I CAN get the label BUT I would have to Drive to Philly or Denver, (from Florida), and then race back, go to Sarasota, (2 hours from me), and submit them. NGC does not have a First Strike designation. Early release is a 30 day window for you to ship and NGC to receive...has to be in their hands ...not a sealed box shipped by the Mint within 30 days. I have no clue how ANYONE would order ANY coin, have it shipped by the Mint the same day, receive it, ship it AND have it in NGC hands all within 4 days. Like they actually expect someone to do the drive you mentioned to get a clad half graded.... Makes zero sense....

I predict they end up with less than 300,000 sets and in two years they are selling at twice the amount.

Standard kennedy proof coins still go for $3-5 each on ebay so I don't think these will be worth less than the $10 paid.

I understand its nice when everyone can have one (who can afford). BUT I would get a bit more satisfaction owning a gold coin knowing only 50k-100k were minted.

Even though I've ordered 5 sets (usually order just 2) I'm just in it for the hope that I can keep my whole set intact and up to date. I will be purchasing the silver set (hope) but am undecided about the gold coin.
I usually don't buy the gold coins (budgetary reasons). I don't think that I'll be changing that at all.
So the question then becomes one of if I don't have the gold commerative Kennedy do I have a complete set. I think that I do.
Tokenss I do have however a couple of the First spouse coins (uncirculated) that I bought before I retired and they are low mintage. A lot lower than the estimated mintage of the gold Kennedy. I don't know who will have made the better deal in the end. Hope we will both become winners.

The 2013 1 oz AE gold proof sold out at 16,800; 1/2 oz at 4800 First spouse gold 1/2 ouncers usually are around 2500 coins 1 ounce gold buffalo has sold just under 16,000 so far this year The 2013 reverse PF gold Buffalo sold 48k which is the highest mintage of any recent gold coin. The Kennedy numbers will blow that out of the water 50-100k is HUGE for a gold coin

I am predicting that the Mint will be selling the gold Kennedy for around $1269.95
3/4oz of 24K gold is waaaaay over my budget. so I'll be saving my $$$ for the silver Kennedy set. My goal is to purchase 5 of these sets.
