Quite new to coin collecting and getting used to grading. Liked the rainbowish tones on these two (part of my stepfather's collection). They apparently have 72% silver content.
1) Are these likely to be naturally toned? The pattern of dark and light on the reverse of the 1939 coin seems a bit suspect to me.
2) What grades would they be? I do have my thoughts on them, want to see if my guesses match the community's!
Some people think toning (oxidisation) is an aesthetic enhancement without discrimination. But not all of them are beautiful. I think there is a difference between rainbows and coffee stains.
The 1914 coin reverse side has also been polluted from something else, (another coin?) at some stage in its long life. I find it hard to offer a grade.
I'd grade the 1939 one, aUNC. A fine specimen, but a quite unusual colour. Despite that, please don't clean it.
Cheers! I had thought around a VG-15ish for the 1914 one, but with the glaring black detail on the reverse, and around xF-40 for the 1939 one, plus of course thr toning implications.
